Netflix's The Witcher series

The person who originally spread the rumor has locked their account and apparently put this as their header.

"I falsely accused a man of sexual assaults/harassment but I feel really bad about it so we're good right?"

This has to stop, there needs to be consequences legal or otherwise for knowingly making false accusations.

This cannot continue if we want to have a fair and civil society.

What an unexpected turn of events.

I am shocked, shocked!
Who could have thought that pissing all over a series that is loved by millions all over the world would blow up in their faces?
Season 1 was not great, but it laid a good fonduation for the show ( I could even get past the racecasting) but after this?
Dead in the water.

Ask Vic Mignogna how well that worked for him. He didn't have mountains of evidence like Johnny Depp. He also had sub par legal team to say the least.

What if we made a Witcher show... With no witchers? Big brain move on Netflix's part. Surely this is failing because of bad fans and not because the main appeal of the franchise is absent entirely.

That's not the thing. You can make a great show set during the most recent conjunction, provided the writing isn't complete horseshit. You could have plots about how the dwarves and gnomes don't make a big deal about humans genociding elves since the elves did the same exact thing to the older races during the conjuction they appeared during, or how the world is dealing with a silly amount of incomprehensible monsters suddenly appearing. Or just have a decent story in the universe with a heavy amount of set dressing - it's been a while since I read the books, but the parts I remember liking the most are Ciri's storyline from Leo Bonhart's intro through the end.

But when the promo image for this trash is a nigger elf and another with a beard, it's obvious they have such a disdain for the IP that making a good story wasn't the first goal, or the hundredth.

I abjectly refuse to even hate-watch Blood Origin but the YouTube reviews I saw made me realize what the exact thing is that irks me about modern fantasy stories like Rings of Power and even a lot of recent tabletop RPG modules: the characters all have the personalities of 21st century social media addicts. Not just that the show tries to appeal to those people, which it's obvious that's the goal, but that every protagonist or sympathetic character has that exact personality with small variations. Here's Jaskier swearing like a 15 year old Whedon fan, for instance:

My favorite thing about fantasy and even historical fiction is when a writer is good at exploring how different times and circumstances can affect a character's priorities, fears, etc. The HBO series Rome was really good at this. But Blood Origin elves are just coastal urban liberal bubble humans with rubber ears. It's not a new problem but it seems so egregious here that it allowed me to put a description to the vague thing that's been bothering me about mainstream fantasy.

It really was. They managed to make the characters seem as though they'd just been plucked off the streets of Rome in the 40s BC, but still completely relatable. They acted appropriately for people of their backgrounds, social standings, and occupations during the time period, but their personalities, struggles, and a cast of ridiculously good actors were what humanized them and made the audiences love them so much. Also, and this is relevant to your post- when the characters got foul-mouthed, they had them use actual swears from the Roman era! That series was a real gem in its ability to immerse audiences in the setting, and it's something that's sorely lacking in so much of modern fantasy and period drama.

One of the things I really hate about most new television shows today, and I noticed this with this show and Star Trek: Picard, is that all the cussing is very forced and unnatural, like a child just starting to learn how to swear. It's not natural like in The Sopranos or something.

"You insensitive cocksucker"

@Alabaster Disaster What were we're is the current iteration of fantasy being inflicted with modern day people and sensibilities which started in the 80ies. Became noticeable in the 90ies, especially if there a woman main character. 21th Century Hollywood just removed all doubt as to what they're doing.

It made more sense though coming from the Sopranos because
1) It (or rather season 1 of the show) was executively produced by Scorsese and
2) It essentially followed the style of Scorsese previous works making the mafia come across as a bunch of politically incorrect wise guys as opposed to Cuppola's/Puzo Machiavellian take on the mafia.
