Imagine what it's like to slowly lose the ability to do the things you love, as month by month you get sicker and sicker, as doctors shrug off your slowly deteriorating health, as they poke and prod you like an animal with painful needles and tests.

Imagine your loving wife watches sadly and helplessly - not knowing quite what to say - she sticks by your side through all the appointments and pills and venous blood draws - wishing she could trade places with you.

Imaging hearing her crying quietly in the bathroom, trying not to upset you, but you are unable to reassure her because you know there's no guarantee that your health will improve, and she knows the same.

It's tragic when this happens to a relatively young man, and the people who are on here celebrating it are losers who don't have the life experience to understand how to live well.

Jim is important to many of us because he brought incredible laughter into our lives for a decade, in a dark world and in a dark times, and when he is getting too sick and weary to do what he loves, he's gone out on top, as a a humble man reminding us to laugh at the funny things in life, and to keep our sense of humor.

I can't think of any better way to honor him than to remind ourselves to keep laughing, from lowest lows to the highest highs.
