Not gatekeeping enough is the reason every artistic medium in the west is the absolute shitshow it is today. I don't care if I'm autistic or an incel for not wanting people to jump on something I care about the second it's socially convenient to do so. I don't care if my hobby or fandom is fully of smelly problematic weirdos as long as they actually care about the thing we're there to talk about. I also don't care if opening the gates gets more bitches cosplaying as characters they don't know or care about. I just want to share a common-interest with other people without worrying that we're being too insular or problematic by people who kind of hate us and want to change every single aspect of what made our hobbies enjoyable. Sure, be welcoming to people who actually want to learn more about your interests. But gatekeeping itself is an important part of any hobby as a form of retard-repellant.
