A man has been taken into custody near the Pocono Mountains in connection with the homicide of four University of Idaho students.

Bryan Kohberger, 28, is the person of interest in custody in Monroe County, Pa., sources confirm to NBC10's Deanna Durante and Brian Sheehan.

Further circumstances regarding the nature of the arrest and the suspect's capture are not yet known. Kohberger appeared in front of a Monroe County judge around 8:30 a.m. Friday, sources tell NBC10.

The Nov. 13 killings of the four students -- Madison Mogan, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin -- left their community of Moscow, Idaho in shock and garnered attention nationwide.

Police say the four were stabbed to death in an off-campus house rented by the three female students in the middle of the night, some with wounds that suggest they fought back against their attacker. The investigation to this point has largely come up empty. Two roommates on the first floor who police say slept through the attack have already been ruled out as suspects.

A press conference is scheduled in Moscow, Idaho at 4 p.m. ET.

Pssssht, speak for yourself. I mean, maybe in a frenzied attack, but a methodical stabbing shouldn't present any issues.
I can't speak for myself because as far as I know I never murdered someone via knife attack. Statistically speaking though a murder via knife leads to cutting oneself. And I'm going to go ahead and say that this was a frenzied attack.

I don't know, using genetic databases to catch murderers is just about the least objectionable use of this information I can think of.

Call me a normie, but murder is wrong.
The issue I would have with it is that once you start down this path, anything can be used to justify anything. You give a justification for why private data should be handed over in this specific case and it'll be used in increasingly tenuous and more torturously convoluted ways to justify other intrusions into people's private lives, and if you question it later then the answer is "Well if you have nothing to hide what are you worried about, if it solves a murder it's good. That's why you're not allowed to encrypt your hard drive or have E2E encrypted messages"

OMG you fucking weirdo the prevailing attitude is murder all hos, so obviously you must be lame. KILL ALL THE THOTS. Aren't you an incel? You're supposed to be!

This is exactly what can happen, will happen, and is currently happening. "Who killed that ho" is soon going to be "who is related to that guy who said something The Chosen People disagreed with publicly?" I'm sure it's fine, it will never affect me, I'll never piss off the (((powers that be))) enough for them to come and get me. For sure.

So what, are you arguing that this technology should be off-limits to crime investigations? I'm not trying to be facile here, this just seems a really weird place to be drawing a line in the sand.

sooooo

“You come in here and I’ll cut you. I’m going to pee on your face. Do what you want with me, I don’t give a s–t,” Cipollina claimed Kohberger yelled at one guard.

He also started rapping lyrics and pulled his pants and underwear down to taunt via his peepee. Shame he will never be released among the other prisoners. You know they would have a field day.

You have to draw a line somewhere, otherwise there's no end to what you're willing to give away for vaguely justified reasons, and the best place for that line is the one that puts the least onus on the presumed innocent and the most restrictions on the state. The alternative is really no line at all, because if "Murder bad" justifies this then it justifies anything. Why not let the police rifle through your hard drive looking for pirated software? That's a crime. You're not a criminal right?

If they have enough evidence to get a warrant to collect your DNA then good, they should collect it, but allowing access to privately held data is just allowing fishing expeditions and there's no good outcome then.

Honestly it sounds like he’s having a manic episode.

This is why you should only kill hookers and teenage runaways. Nobody cares about them.

Or be rich enough that you can kill and rape your 6 year old daughter on Christmas, write a fake ransom note, and get away with it.

I don't kill hookers or runaways. I've never killed anyone. But if I did, it would be homeless hookers.

Hey man, come on. Don’t be stupid.

We all know Burke did it.

Do you mean now, just eliminated in general, or he was adjudicated a lunatic or an idiot? (Some states still have that literal language in their constitution.)
I have no good answer for that. Nothing comes up when his stuff gets punched in.

Honestly it sounds like he’s having a manic episode.
Vegans frequently have mental health problems because their brains are starved of vital nutrients, fats and proteins. You can pet the cow as much as you like, but it won't change the fact that humans have evolved to eat the thing instead. On the rare occasions you met a 'sane' vegan, it's usually one who takes dietary supplements and has blood work done regularly.

You can obviously see he's in a turtle suit in his mugshot.

He wasn't exposing himself. He doesn't have any pants. Of course his dick is hanging out. He doesn't have any pants.

A turtle suit is the thick velcro top they give you instead of regular jail clothes so you can't hang yourself. It's just a top. You have no pants or underwear. Your dick will be fullly exposed at all times. If you behave they might let you have a pillow.

Idaho murders: Suspect was identified through DNA using genealogy databases, police say

Police identified Bryan Christopher Kohberger as the suspect accused of murdering four University of Idaho students in November through DNA using public genealogy databases, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

Local police and the FBI tracked him to Pennsylvania through his vehicle. The FBI surveilled the house in the Pocono Mountains for four days prior to the arrest.

The 28-year-old was arrested Friday morning for the murders of roommates Kaylee Goncalves, 21; Madison Mogen, 21, and Xana Kernodle, 20, as well as Kernodle's boyfriend, Ethan Chapin, 20.

Kohberger is a graduate student at Washington State University, located less than 10 miles away from the University of Idaho, Moscow Police Chief James Fry said at a Friday news conference.

The murder weapon has not been recovered, the chief said.

Jason LaBar, Kohberger's public defender in Pennsylvania, told ABC News on Monday that Bryan and his father Michael were pulled over twice in Indiana while driving from Pullman, Washington, to the Poconos, saying it was "approximately an hour apart, once for speeding, once for tailgating."

The pair were doing their preplanned, end-of-semester cross-country road trip, arriving at the family home on Dec. 13, 2022, exactly one month after the murders. They drove in the white Elantra, which is now being processed by authorities.

Washington State University identifies Kohberger as a Ph.D. student in its department of criminal justice and criminology. He completed his first semester in its criminal justice program earlier this month, the university said.

Within an hour of Kohberger being identified as the suspect, more than 400 calls came in to the Moscow Police Department's tip line, Fry said.

Kohberger is set to appear in Monroe County Court to face his charges, which include four counts of first-degree murder and burglary.

It is also the first step in his extradition to Idaho, where he will have another appearance.

Monroe County Chief Public Defender Jason LaBar, who is representing the suspect, previously said Kohberger "intends to waive his extradition hearing to expedite his transport to Idaho" and that he "is eager to be exonerated of these charges and looks forward to resolving these matters as promptly as possible."

Police have said they cannot reveal any information, including a motive or further details about how they tracked down Kohberger, until he is back in Idaho.

Many details of the case remain a mystery including a potential motive for the murders or how Kohberger knew the victims.

Authorities announced earlier this month that they were looking to speak with the driver of a white 2011-2013 Hyundai Elantra that was spotted near the victims' house around the time of the crime.

Asked at Friday's news conference if that car has now been found, the chief replied, "We have found an Elantra."

Fry later told ABC News Saturday that Kohberger is believed to be the only suspect in the high-profile case, authorities said.

"We believe we have our guy, the one that committed these murders," he said, adding that he does not anticipate any additional arrests.

Prior to attending Washington State University, Kohberger attended college at DeSales University, earning his bachelor's degree in 2020 and completing graduate studies in June 2022.

"As a Catholic, Salesian community, we are devastated by this senseless tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims' families during this difficult time," the university said in a statementfollowing his arrest.

ABC News' Kayna Whitworth and Timmy Truong contributed to this report.

Genealogy/DNA sites are the greatest self-dox scam of all time, I tells ya.
I refuse to have anything to do with these companies. Not that I do crimes- today it’s solving murders, but that data is going to get worked over by AI over the next years, probably for purposes I will hate.

Not that it matters, most people have compliant sheep in their family who are delighted to trade their genomic data for a colored printout with some charts, and we will get mapped in anyways.

Some cops have said they can solve damn near any murder given enough resources and time. I don't know if I believe them but that's what they say... they say you may as well leave your drivers license in the shirt pocket of the corpse because with modern tech your apprehension is inevitable.
And yet the clearance rate is only 50% in the US. 🧐

I guess don’t kill blonde coeds and they won’t try too hard. Tough luck if you’re a human trafficking victim or anywhere near any gang activity.
