I was perfectly willing to give him a chance, and got through maybe four chapters of "The Ark", which was amazingly dumb. I read even less of "Gate Crashers", mainly because it's too hard to get your wind back after the opening paragraph:
"It was a cold, dark night in deep space. Of course, that's the sort of night experienced spacers preferred. A hot, bright night meant you'd flown into an uncharted star. Such nights are known for their brevity."
I'd like to picture Douglas Fattums sitting at his Machine that Kills Fascists laughing every time he read it, but we all know he doesn't edit, so he's only read it once.
