A teacher was injured in a shooting Jan. 6, 2023, at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia, according to police and school officials.

A 6-year-old student shot a teacher during an altercation at a Virginia elementary school on Friday, police said. No students were injured in the incident at Richneck Elementary School, Newport News police said in a statement.

"This was not an accidental shooting," Police Chief Steve Drew told reporters during an evening press conference.

The chief said the teacher, a woman in her 30s, suffered what he described as a life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital.

The boy was taken into custody, the chief said. No one else was involved in the incident, he said. "We have been in contact with our commonwealth attorney and some other entities to help us best get services to this young man," Drew said.

The chief said a handgun was used in the altercation and he wanted to know where it came from.

The shooting was isolated to a classroom at the school, Drew said.

"This was not a situation where we had a student, or any other individuals, going up and down the halls actively firing in a long shooting incident," Drew said.

Mayor Phillip Jones said the incident "hurts my heart."

"It's a dark day for Newport News," Jones said. "We're going to learn from this, and we're going to come back stronger."

The school district had said parents and guardians could pick up children at the school's gym.

Over 20 years ago in Michigan, a 6 year old male shot and killed a 6 year old female student (Kayla Rolland) in his school. I think it was the owner of the gun who was held responsible, not the child. To me, In some cases, the children are a lost cause. Look at that 10 year old negro in Wisconsin who shot and killed his mother because shouldn't let him buy a VR set. And then used his dead mothers account to buy one.

Anyways, I think its safe to assume the child's colour. The questions are though, how did they end up getting their hands on a gun and why did they feel the need to shoot a teacher?

Listening to the Newport News PD press release right now:

Single shot fired from a TAURUS 9mm pistol. Who bet on it being a Taurus?

The shot hit the teacher in the hand as she raised an arm defensively. It continued through to strike her chest.

The legally purchased pistol, was secreted into a backpack by the child, who was brought to school by their mother.

Abigail Zwerner is in serious but stable condition, and is improving.

I think we can all agree that race independently, there needs to be a very perfect storm of motivation and intent for a 6 year old boy with access to firearms to manage to lethally injure one person then clearly stop given there's no reports of any follow-up attacks from the same child. Toddler violence is spontaneous, immediate, and quickly forgotten - swatting toys off of tables or screaming then acting like nothing happened 15 minutes later. They don't think about the long-term consequences but they're also not thinking about long-term plans either.

This child knew he had access to a gun and was able to smuggle it in without ratting himself out (Those of you with toddlers know how hard it is for a child to sneak anything past you without them being betrayed by their own duper's delight - now imagine a toddler trying to do that to dozens of people as they manage to bring their stuff into a classroom) and linger around it for the better part of a day before procuring it, aiming at his teacher, and firing. Not only is firing any gun going to be a deliberate process for a small child, so is handling and even understanding how to aim it beyond "end opposite of me points at thing I want to perforate" - meaning if the teacher were aware she was being targeted, she should have had ample time to accost and deal with him. The fact she didn't means he waited until she would be unaware.

This is, explicitly, inarguably delayed gratification of some kind for the kid. She pissed him off so severely he was able to hold onto that anger for at least one day to get his hands on a weapon he could use to kill her with. I'm going to assume the worst simply because of how long it's taken to reveal anything about the victim other than her appearance. Otherwise we'd have heard about the potential reasons already.

It's also why I'm reticent to say the child is black (or at least full-blown enough for it to be visibly apparent), every news site in the country would be frothing at an opportunity about how a black child killed a mean racist white adult.

I mean, that teacher doesn't look like the type that would do the whole pronoun grooming shit, and even if she was, I don't see how that could cause a 6 year old to feel hatred strong enough to want to hurt her, especially when he wouldn't have been groomed long enough to feel the damage of it.

Unless she legit physically/sexually abused him, I'm thinking:

1. He got in trouble at home for something (Maybe she told the parents that he wasn't listening to the teacher or he was being rude, etc and they responded with beating the crap out of him) so the kid blamed the teacher for his trouble at home

2. He's just a budding psychopath that felt "wronged" and decided she had to go. It wouldn't surprise me if we find out this kid has severe behavioral problems and hurt other kids long before it got to this point.

3. He's just an idiot child (with even bigger idiot parents for not locking it down). He wanted to show it off but ended up accidentally firing it.

She's even stupider than I expected. and just watch, if she recovers she'll defend the kid and act like hes the victim here and how he shouldn't be punished for what he did, cause its totally because he's black that he's getting punished nevermind the fact he brought a gun to school and shot me

Her trying to take the gun away and getting shot as a result doesn't explain why he brought it to the school in the first place or what he did for her to notice it and try to take it from him. Something is off here. He didn't shoot at any students or anyone else so it wasn't him going columbine, yet he clearly took it out for some reason and she was close enough to see him do it, so I suspect it still has something to do with her

That said, why the fuck was she trying to take it away from him at all? She should have called the office, had them call the cops and have them deal with it. Trying to take it got her shot and could have gotten others shot as well. Ten bucks this feeds directly in to what she said in that screenshot @Iron Jaguar posted. She didn't want the cops or the school getting involved cause he's black and muh racism so she was going to take it and quietly make the gun disappear or surrender it to the cops saying she found it or some shit, so the kid wouldn't get in trouble, and try to give him a 'stern talking to' about why its inappropriate to bring a fucking gun to class and it backfired on her. She comes off as exactly the type of idiot woman to do that

No matter how this ends the school needs to fire her ass for doing something stupid that resulted in a shooting instead of involving the authorities. There is no way the school doesn't have procedures teachers are required to follow in those situations. Every school does at this point

My thoughts also. Looking good for mid 40s. Then uhh mid 20s, holy hell. City miles do a number. Obligatory 00's 'tramp stamp'-equivalent "inspirational" tattoos. Instead of cats, women like that are wine aunts for their schoolchildren. "Can't keep a guy because I'm focused on my class".
