This is one of those things that is ongoing and probably not going to end for the foreseeable future, and basically also the reason I'm in a perpetual state of 'peaked' when it comes to this shit.

Less than a decade ago when I was younger and still in uni, and this gender identity stuff was starting to take off, I never pushed the subject past a certain point and just agreed to 'live and let live' because at the time it really did sound as if this was a new and poorly understood medical condition, so fine, fuck it. Use people's pronouns, names, etc. etc. I never really felt like people ever figured out, or even wanted to figure out, what caused people to troon out.

It felt like the consensus slowly shifted from "arduous medical condition that nobody wants, should be understood with sympathy" to something else, with the gradual bullshit like what happened with Kenneth Zucker at CAMH and dangerous troon stalkers menacing journalists and academics who wrote about gender dysphoria from an objective, scientific perspective. So now obviously, instead, it's widely understood not as a malady but "stunning and brave, downtrodden social identity to defend at all costs."

I feel like the shift in tone about how this issue is (or can be) discussed has shifted in a similar trajectory. Just think about how the goalposts shifted:

Can we call out that trans seems like a mental health problem? Look at the overlaps with ADHD/ASD/BPD/Pedophilia...
