Ages ago I posted about a girl I knew that wrote a paper on gender representation in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Yesterday, she posted about how that essay won the "younger-wendlend LGBTQ contest" (whatever that is) and today she posted it. I dumped it into pastebin, the few pictures here and there don't work but oh well. It's 15 pages long so I didn't read all of it but skimming it proved amusing.

I have Animal Crossing: New Leaf. While it's a fun game, it's nowhere as complicated nor analysis-worthy as they're making it out to be.
Well, that makes sense. It's like how Steven Universe fans hate the staff, but love the show.

Tumblr's Dragon Age fandom is ripe for an occasional pick at low-hanging fruit because they're all giant babies. At the moment they're having some sort of double meltdown because two people wrote terrible fanfiction.
Imagine throwing a screeching tantrum and rallying your fellow pissbabies to throw a collective, even louder screeching tantrum because of fanfiction.
In one fanfic the sassy black lady who's a minority and therefore perfect and can do no wrong but is regularly accused by racist detractor gamerdudebro cis shitlords of having her head up her ass is visited by the rapemurder fairy or something and that's terrible.
In the other fanfic the sassy gay dude is written falls truly madly deeply in love with a female self-insert and apparently that's also terrible.
(It is, but that's because all fanfiction is terrible.)
Also of note but not included in this post: the hairy bear-shaped hetero-exclusive romance dude is a stalker rapist, the giant ox dude is a rapist, the ex-templar guy is a rape apologist, the religious priest lady is a problematic rape apologist, the bald literal egghead is a >9k-year old rapist, the rape rapist raped a rap about rape, and probably something else about rape that I haven't seen them soiling their tampons over.

Fun fact - Animal Forest (2001) was actually the first Animal Crossing game. It was an N64 game released only in Japan.

Tumblr's Dragon Age fandom is a guilty pleasure of mine. They really are the biggest babies I've ever seen and I just can't look away.
For a while I've been loosely following elfyourmother, a pagan elfkin DA fan in her 30s who is very passionate about black people, bisexuality, and polyamory, and who gets mad when Bioware does anything that contradicts her heavily modded Origins playthrough in which Gisele, her black female elven mage self-insert, is lusted after by every male character, even the ones she hates, and then marries king Alistair and becomes the queen while still in a polyamorous relationship with every other romance option in the game. She also writes fanfiction shipping her Origins character with everyone she likes, including Justice, a spirit possessing a rotting corpse, and Dorian, a gay guy whose writer she hates for making him a filthy monogamous monosexual gay instead of bi and poly.
