Tabletop Roleplaying Games (D&D, Pathfinder, CoC, ETC.)

Even mass account deletion won't bother them,
That I'm going to say its not true. That WILL bother them. Its the only thing that will, because that is money out of their pockets. Its stuff like that that will make suits stand up and take notice, as proven by the shenanigans Wizards is doing now to make it harder to end your account. This is the clearest method of showing them you disprove of their actions. Bitching on the internet? That's nothing. Ending the account or subscription? That sends a message.

Looks like DnD Beyond removed the delete account button. To do it now you have to submit a trouble ticket.

Stay classy WOTC.
That sounds like a fast track to chargeback city.
If they actually did that, they are breaking California Law. If you can create an account without interacting with a human, you have to be able to delete self-same account without interacting with a human. Fines are $1,000,000 a day and per my coastie acquaintance the AG has apparently been salivating for a poster child to skewer because no one has been dumb enough to fuck around and find out yet.

Gygax was no great shakes either, dude basically ran TSR into the ground through shitty financial calls and treating the company as his piggy bank while also being extremely litigious. That said, I don't disagree with you, I'd still take him in a heartbeat over a bunch of corpo fucks from Hasbro. I think the people in charge for 3rd edition were possibly the best blend of wanting to make a good game while not being utter assholes. They put out solid work, made the OGL, and were generally good for the whole RPG ecosystem.
You aren't wrong but:
I'd sacrifice every Monte Cook wokie & tranny Asmodeus to have Weird Al back, let alone Gygax.
"But Weird Al isn't dead." yeah I know; Look I'd sacrifice them to satan for $20, a new set of clothes, and a jury full of red-pilled 2e grogs
The fact he TSR succeeded inspite of him running it, and the fact he other personal failings doesn't change the fact he knew how to game and instinctively grasped it. You don't need to know to mix paint in order to make mural inb4 Jackson Pollock

That's not a bad idea. Is there an easy way to download everything from d20pfsrd, and how big is it?
It's a big pile of text with a ton of hyperlinks, I'm not sure if that would take up all that much room. I suppose certain archive sites would be able to snag it but those aren't the most reliable things and if WotC is going to be hunting down stuff I'm not sure how effective it'd be. Has to be a way though. I might just end up having to find the splat books I like at a second hand book store if shit hits the fan.

d20srd used to have a .zip download of their site in the dark ages before your cell phone got free internet. I might still have that hidden somewhere. I'll look but don't hold your breath.

He was visionary as far as game development went and an absolutely abysmal businessman as far as that went. Real shame that combo.

It is quite literally one of the few things good and somehow working in California. It's a fucking miracle it even worked. But I guess the glorified bribe that is the fines also helped. There's also a lot of other shit foreboding about CCPA, but I vaguely remember them.

And California, being the retard that it is, will fuck over WoTC at the chance for a quick buck, especially after the fucking budget deficit.
In fact for anyone in California wanting to fuck over WoTC for this: here you go

For anyone lazy look at "the right to delete" clause.
Businesses must respond to your request within 45 calendar days. They can extend that deadline by another 45 days (90 days total) if they notify you.

If you submitted a request to delete and have not received any response within the timeline, check the business’s privacy policy to make sure you submitted your request through the designated way. Follow up with the business to see if the business is subject to the CCPA and to follow up on your request.
So essentially WoTC really is trying the "maybe if we hide everything" they'll forget.

Remember the oldass adage: "Never forgive, never forget" by anomalous. It applies here.

Maybe I'm late to this but I couldn't help but notice a neat little addition to Fate's character sheet.

So personal pronouns are universal in every form of culture, society, time period and even universe. Cool.

Of course they are, bigot!

Eh, its Evil Hat. I don't know how you can't know they are pozzed out the ears at this point. I mean expect the lead dev to tweet "I asked this black man to buck break me so I can know a small fraction of the pain and suffering all white people have committed on black and brown bodies. #reparationsnow #downlow #fire45 #timesup #bbc #notafetishstopasking"

"I have castrated myself to show I stand with Asexual Gamers on this Asexual Day of Remembrance and Visibility. FATE is for everyone who isn't white or male or straight. in addition to solidarity with #Ace_gamers this will ensure I don't pass my hateful wh*te genes. #Ace_the_hole #betterthanlancearmstrongatsomething #nonutnotever #virginbychoicenotchance #FATEmyneghole #hypnosissy #futureisfemale"

Critical Role posted a milquetoast statement on their twitter about how much they love creators and how people should be able to get into the market to share their work, etc. I imagine it was as close as they could come to supporting the open license people through whatever contractual minefield exists full of NDAs and non-disparagement clauses between them and WotC.
Critical role are almost entirely the reason for this woke tranny shit in D&D exists and they hate non-funkopop hoarding players who won't drink the kool-aid more than even WOTC. They're probably the worst thing to happen to ttrpgs, and that includes F.A.T.A.L. and RPGA autist munchkins.

They, and their scripted, nobody loses garbage can fuck themselves.

If it wasn't Critical Role, it would have been some other group. Critical Role didn't create the market, they just seized it and they are no worse (and possibly less work) than a couple of the pretenders to throne before Critical Role ran away with it.

Oh, that makes it OK, then.

I dunno if 5etools is playing it safe, they're genuinely concerned about legal action from WotC/Hasbro, or they're just raising a middle finger to them, but I just noticed they have a new section on their homepage highlighting that you can host your own copy of the site, with links to their Github page and installation guide. I think the links were there before, but I don't recall seeing them displayed more prominently. The main files are only 55MB zipped, with all the images adding about 5GB more to the total.

So if you're worried about corporate assholes killing off an insanely useful, not entirely legal resource, or you just want to yohoho for the hell of it, I'd suggest grabbing a copy now while you still can.

No, the worst thing to happen to ttrpgs is PbtA letting everyone anyone just shit out 5 pages of crap and claim that they're a "game designer" and should be listened to.

They've ALWAYS hated that all you needed to play was a PH, DMG, and MM, to the point where one of them screamed "DON'T SAY THAT!" when it was brought up at meeting.
Got a link to that bit? I could do with a snigger.

Gygax is a demon to these evil fucks, despite having literally created what they pretend to be the guardians of. I would sacrifice every single one of these demonic blue-haired freaks on an altar to Satan to get Gygax back.
I'd sacrifice them for a rainless day. Don't price yourself out of the human sacrifice market when it comes to this sort of quality of offerings.

That they're trying to go full XBox monetization doesn't surprise me. They've been figuring out how to get the most out of stuff for two decades.

And they've always viewed 3PP as "taking OUR money" and hated them with a passion.

They also HATE the old player base. They don't want a player base. They want XBox Live paypigs.

It doesn't help that the CEO of WotC is a former Microsoft executive that worked at the XBox division. Explains a lot.

What is funny that a few days ago Mercer was retweeting tweets in support of fans and players displeased with the OGL. My guess is that WotC reminded him of his contract and to avoid legal action he has no choice but to fence sit.

I've said it before that it's to ttrpgs what the WWE is to martial sports it's a fucking act with scripted moments. Oddly enough I'd say that the WWE/AEW marks aren't nearly as sad pathetic and gullible as CR's marks are which is really saying something from experience being around IWC marks.

Probably completely off-topic but...

Every time I tried to tabletop game, a problem I had was players who treated it like video game rules applied.

For example in a fight, I was the only person to think of something like trying to climb a tree so I could throw rocks or shoot without having to worry about counter-attacks.... and other players were like "Wait, you can DO that?" (the other players were just saying "attack" or "I cast this spell at that target" over and over).

Is this widespread or do I just keep running into idiots?

Sounds like the guys you role with are particularly stupid. In every group I rolled with, we always tried to find ways to use the terrain to our favor.

They're idiots who probably never even read through the players manual.
They just have a basic concept of their character and what it can do.
Taking cover and things have been right there in the books since Moldvay BX.
