Not sure if mentioned before but there's this one youtuber called DuckBricks who at first seemed like a really enthusiastic Bionicle and Lego collector who has a big collection of the stuff he likes. Upon further persual of his channel it appears he gets basically every available Lego set that comes out. I was hesitant of posting it here since his behavior isn't completely mindless consoomer you see from others though at this point I think it's worth a mention. He does those cringe "haul videos" too which should be an automatic entry as a consoomer.

Collecting a theme as large as bionicle is already a huge investment, not just money but space. Trying to collect everything is when you hit the addiction phase. Now you can keep and resell them, especially if you keep the box, but if you want a profit, that takes years.

I collect Xbox not SNES I would say not for a while people seem to place a value on Nintendo products way above what they should be worth for example a copy of wii sports one of the most sold games in history and came bundled in just about every Wii for free cost around 20 dollars.

Heck, I don’t even have a problem with an adult occasionally putting together a set as a hobby.

The pandemic launched used game prices across the board by about 2x-5x their 2019 value, and they were already getting steep even back then.

I’m not a SNES collector but generally vidya prices go through a spike when the generation that grew up with them hits young adulthood and wants to relive their childhood, followed by a dip when those people reach middle age and their priorities in life change - they might sell their collection to help buy a house or to turn their vidya man cave into a child’s bedroom or something. The trend might be different for the SNES depending on the amount of manchildren involved, or it might stay the same. Who knows?

This is absolutely correct, for normal times, at least. The current hyperinflation situation is making things unpredictable. Will the consoomers have to cut back in order to put food on the table, or will they continue to pour all of their disposable income into overpriced cartridges? It's hard to say, though I think it's a safe bet that everything having to do with escapism will be tossed by the wayside by most if the general state of the world starts going uphill again. But who knows when that'll be.

Valve and Steam Stans can get very crazy too. They literally treat Gabe Newell as God, and shower with him with praise whenever Valve does something, or a game that they like becomes available on Steam. It's as if those Stans have to keep giving GabeN constant praise, out of fear that he'll Thanos snap their Steam account (and all of the games and cosmetics with it), if he feels offended or inconvenienced by saying something about him or Valve games or Steam that isn't praise.

And whenever either a new DOTA 2 Battle Pass, a new CSGO skin crate, a new TF2 hat, or a Steam Summer or Winter Sale happens, those Stans instantly go into "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY GABEN" mode.

Gabe Newell is to video games what Sam Walton was to retail. I mean, good on him and all, but he built a fucking store and you are sucking his dick for it.

My older cousins and uncles used to do this to me and it was deliberate humilliation tactic, they just thought it was the funniest. One birthday they promise to take me out for a surprise, i got to watch them enter a video game store, buy a newly released ps2s with a hunch of games, controllers, etc but it was for themselves. Then with bags full of a few thousands of dollars of electronics they bought me a single cupcake with a candle on it and sent me back home.

Cool thing to do to a 12 yr old kid whose parent just died and is struggling to survive in the middle of economic crisis in Venezuela. That was my aunt's idea.

At least i learned a lesson about those kinds of people early.
