"Mad at the Internet" - a/k/a My Psychotherapy Sessions

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Destiny is really frustrating because he's not stupid and is often on the right track but somehow manages to come to the wrong conclusion. I'm aware that I'm implying my position is objectively right but this issue of his is best shown when he plays Devil's advocate. He shows that he can create consistent and logical arguments that the people he talks to can't really answer.
I appreciated how he complained about user behaviors and challenges Null on moderation style, but then immediately explains his user moderation style and it's the same thing. (Discourage people from breaking rules)

And then his fucking reddit comments were laughably retarded

Someone said they were expecting a screaming match between null and destiny
I don't know why people expect Null to be a spastic socially inept retard. He can be harsh when tardwrangling people on the forum but he's usually chill on the podcast.

Destiny for the most part wasn't cringe, except for pushing that doxxing is the takedown reason
It's not the reason but it is an excuse. The fact that he stated it as a fact shows that it's an effective excuse used by our opponents.
The best argument against it is that Byuu was never doxed on the forum and caused one of the biggest crusades against us.

And strawmanning that Kiwis are 'obsessed'.
Exaggerated for sure. But if you check DSP board or Wings of Redemption thread you'll notice it's not entirely meritless. People who only come here for one cow - Phil, Jodie, Fatrick for example - can be a bit obsessive, it just doesn't reflect general forum culture.

IMO, Destiny and other people - even if they acknowledge that "doxing" isn't actually illegal - get caught up on the idea of why someone would even post dox in the first place.
I find it funny in two instances: when someone claims they are undoxable and have their address and picture in drag posted the same day or when someone claims they are super-rich and have a picture of their run-down shitty house posted.

I'm 45 minutes in, and its been interesting and surprisingly reasonable so far. Josh is at his best when he talks about the internet, I think.

The convo about what we miss about the old internet sticks out, and I gotta agree with the "everything" comment from Josh. I think the thing I miss the most is everywhere had its own community. Nowadays, if you want to discuss shit, its all social media, even bands and all are just social media now. Back then bands, even tiny ones, had their own websites, usually with messageboards. And it allowed you to visit so many different forums that overlapped in your interests, but each had its own unique culture, and each had their own lolcows, before the word was even used.

I just miss the genuine diversity.

And by basics I mean: Control Structures, Variables, Data Structures, Input, Output, etc.

Well that sounds like venusian but you didn't explain wherr to learn what it all means.
The number of people I've interviewed for tech jobs over the years who have said "I know X" and when I ask them how X actually works and I get blank stares is too damn high.

I get the frustration but as I mentioned above, don't complain about me not knowing howing how to double clutch if you haven't even shown me a truck.
I'll always prefer the person who can learn X because they've learned A,B,C,D over the person who knows X but has no idea what's behind it.

(Why yes, I have been doing interviews of shitty candidates at work lately.)
O.K.
what is A?
The 4 year degree program to become a programer is a scam, and you owe it to yourself and your future profession to stop engaging with it.
Agreed. I mentioned U of P cause jersh asked. That said, I actually do want to lear to code and dont knoe how
At best it gets you credentials, but you can make up for that with certs from Oracle, AWS or A+. I'm not going to lie to you, Null has oversimplified the training required to get into this field as a professional. It will be hard to get good from 0, but I strangely want to believe in a man who manages to keep the world running.

I am so glad you don't know me, or what an ashohole retard I am.
As a coder, your job will be to solve problems using a programming language as a tool. Thus the easiest way to learn is to come up with a simple problem barely outside what you think you can do and solve it. Think of something easy now that would make your a day a little better even if it already exists. You will be working towards making it. Something dumb like a fuel expense calculator on a webpage.
O.K.
You are starting from zero, so I would recommend that you add HTML/JS to your toolbox first. They will help you build a web interface that you can load in chrome and play with. Tutorials can be found here.

https://www.w3schools.com Search HTML and JS

Building that first application may make you feel retarded and slow, but we were all there once. JS is important because it will get you into backend stuff like Express.
What is express?
If you can make that dumb thing, then you can further advance your skillset to get hired. Look at listings on Indeed to see what skills are in demand in your area or remotely and work towards getting them. Pick a route from the website below and go down it to get those skills. Web-dev is the most common.

Research certificates to prove your competency and acquire them. Getting your first job is the hardest, but if you really put your nose to the grindstone you'll make it. We're all gonna make it

Edit:One of the benefits of the 4 year program is an emphasis on data structures and algorithms. MIT has a free courses on those which I would highly recommend you read up on.

Thank you both. Non-ironically.

Since we're on the topic of show appearances, this is probably a huge longshot, but I know for a fact that Kaya Orsan, one of the four hosts of Cr1tikal's Podcast, has expressed overt sympathy towards this site and Null, bluntly mentioning lurking threads here and discussing lolcows on previous (and recent) episodes of the show. I don't know how likely it would be for Cr1tikal himself to agree to let Josh on, but maybe Kaya would be interested? Like I said though, probably a pipedream. Cr1tikal would most likely be fearful of rocking the boat too much and endangering having retards in his audience harass his esports company for 'platforming a transphobe' or whatever the fuck. But still, it could be interesting.

I watched that Tantacrul video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3y6SsGAWks) and then went to read the response by the site admin, RainAndSadness.

Bear in mind that this is an admin of an explicitly suicidal forum that genuinely believes anybody should be allowed to kill themselves at any time without intervention or stigma from the government or society. This is a forum that (unlike this one) has actually been credibly implicated in more than a few suicides (some children).

I find it very weak and a little unsettling. Large amounts of coping, goalpost moving and evasiveness. They don't seem to want to admit that the forum is filled with people encouraging suicide and providing helpful information on how to do so, despite that being extremely easy to see from even a cursory glance at the forum.

They mention being a tranny about 10 times (unironically) to emphasize just how depressed, marginalised and downtrodden they are.
Being trans teached me that we live in a society that doesn't really give a fuck about marginalised people. That's
You know, I'm a trans woman. And there is a long history of the media misrepresenting who we are. And you're doing a similiar thing right now. I mean, let's look at some headlines, right?
I'm transgender, that's why I immediately knew where your narrative is coming from. Do you see how the media hounds us trans people?

Some parts are completely nonsensical, such as
It was a big mistake to talk about this forum because as I'm writing this thread, just a few hours after you published your video, we already had thousands of guests. The registration queue spiked, depressed people from your community want to join our forum. I'm asking you right now, given you think this is a very bad place: can you live with the guilt, when your audience makes accounts in this forum, a place that's apparently so bad, it needs political legislation to be taken down?

They claim to be completely unaffiliated with the suicide supplies marketplace Exit, which sells mainly Sodium Nitrite and Helium exit bags. To the truth of this I cannot speak.
You're implying we work with Exit. It's a conspiracy theory. The forum doesn't make any profit, period. Your claim that this forum is illegal in most countries is therefore incorrect. Nobody is allowed to sell anything on the forum. If we find out, we take action.

The weakest part of the Tantacrul video for me was the last part, where he interviews some relatives of forum members who killed themselves. Clearly it's very unfortunate for the relatives, but confusing that they've misdirected their anger on to Section 230(c)(1) as their target. Nevertheless, describing grieving family members lashing out as "pretend" victims stands out to me as Not A Good Look from RainAndSadness.
The spearhead of these grieving parents is Kelli. She leads FixThe26 and is the most vocal opponent of this forum. I have thought about this for a long time but given that these people still successfully pretend to be victims, I have to break my silence about the behavior of these people.
But here is the deal. These people aren't victims. They didn't take their own life. They're predators.

Not that i'm taking a big political stance on assisted dying or suicide prevention, but this person is clearly a freak, as are the long time posters of the forum. How do you even come to post on a site like that for years? Isn't it a bit suspicious, somebody making thousands of posts encouracing and facilitating the suicide of others, without ever having the guts to do it themselves?

That said, there are a few salient points on:
-the unhelpful platitudes spouted by people (including Tantacrul) with little knowledge of the subject
-the eagerness of the medical system to imprison and medicate people for telling the truth to doctors about their feelings
-the retarded Online Safety Bill in the UK that aims to prosecute "legal but harmful content"

What are you, diving into the exif data of images or something? I downloaded GIMP a long time ago so I'm lazy to switch over and it's not like they get anything from me.

Fascinating, does SS have a community watch thread? If not they definitely deserve one.

I think there's a good chance Kaya would like to talk to Josh, but the others? No way. Charlie and Andrew have too much to lose in terms of reputation with normies, and who the fuck cares what Jackson thinks.

About doxing:

Destiny initially seemed to think that Kiwifarms has a rule against some forms of doxing, like the posting of SSNs or credit card numbers. He was surprised when Null responded by saying that there aren't rules against this. Null continued, basically saying he doesn't want to litigate what counts as doxing and what kinds of information should be prohibited. He wants to be able to apply clear, binary rules to determine if a post is rule-breaking, but "doxing" is too fuzzy of a concept for this to work. So instead, Null deletes posts or bans users if he thinks their primary intent is to harm the lolcow.

I feel like Null could have clarified this a little bit better, and it's important since doxing is the main sticking-point for normal people who hear about KF's woes.
Null mentioned that most ""personal"" information about lolcows is obtained from the lolcows themselves oversharing on social media or from a Kiwi searching through publicly-available resources like VoterRecords or Whitepages. This is all 100% legal, and this is a point that should always be hammered. It's no different from how phonebooks used to be ubiquitous and would list not only the names & phone numbers of regular citizens, but often even their home addresses. Phonebooks were obviously never illegal, and I think they still exist in some places, although they've mostly been replaced by websites like Whitepages.

IMO, Destiny and other people - even if they acknowledge that "doxing" isn't actually illegal - get caught up on the idea of why someone would even post dox in the first place. They assume there must be nefarious intent. I think this is where the disconnect happens when they hear Null talk about how he allows doxing but will ban someone who seems to only be posting to harm a lolcow.

This gets into the sticky issue of "litigating" what counts as doxing. Sure, Null could ban obvious things like SSNs and credit cards... but this absolutely wouldn't satisfy KF's detractors. So what else should he ban to make the detractors happy?
  • Should homes addresses of lolcows be banned? And does it make a difference if the lolcow is a public figure (like a politician, etc) or has willingly posted their address on social media? What if it's done to prove that a lolcow is a lying scammer/grifter, as in the case of Ana Mardoll - who constantly begged on Twitter and claimed to be impoverished, but turned out to be living in an expensive house & working for a major defense contractor? Or as another example, how about the Tenacious Unicorn Ranch, who have been running a scam GoFundMe campaign ostensibly to "expand" their operation, but the truth is that they're abandoning their old property and moving back into the family home of their leader?
  • Should the real names of lolcows be banned? And again, does it make a difference if they're a public figure? What about if they're a convicted criminal? Should a trans person's "deadname" also be banned from posting as well? I'm sure someone like Bardfinn - a notoriously awful Reddit powermod - would love this. After all, a Kiwi went to a courthouse and (legally) obtained documents proving that Bardfinn is a convicted wifebeater & a deadbeat father who refuses to pay child support. People like Bardfinn commonly troon out or change their name in the first place in order to hide their criminal/unsavory past... should none of this be exposed?
I think you get my point: "doxing" is almost always legal and can serve a legitimate purpose. There's also different kinds of information which all get labelled as "dox", so if you want to litigate what information is allowed and what is prohibited, it'll get murky very quickly - especially if you want to provide exceptions for lolcows who are public figures, criminals, scammers, etc. This is likely why Null broadly allows doxing, but will individually crack down on users who he feels are being overly malicious.
Excuse you, it's pronounced DYHHHAAAXXXING.

Does anyone have the Ralphamania cover of the Sealab 2021 intro from the latest episode? It's catchy as fuck.

I'd be up for PKA. I'm feeling like a social butterfly this year.

FUCK!

I lost so much respect for Turkey Tom during his stream with Null. Trying to correct Null with "HER prostate orgasms" when talking about Keffals like god you are such a faggot coward. The reason why we are in the situation we are right now is because of cowards like Tom. Zoomers suck ass. The based zoomer meme was alway a cope. They are by far the most indoctrinated generation to have ever lived.

@Null Sorry, one correction from Friday's stream. ProtonVPN only blocks .net if you have their NetShield feature on. If you turn it off, .net works fine. (Tbf, that may vary for free users.) It's literally a button on mobile and desktop.

Source: using it right now. More info here:
https://protonvpn.com/blog/netshield-ad-blocker/
Seems like it's using various blocklists, so I'm sure it's the same b.s. that happens on some public WiFi access points, maybe going back to the crypto mining blacklist.

@Null Non-ironically. How do I learn to code? For context I'm a 45 year old OTR truck driver, so going to a physical school isn't an option.

BTW university of pheonix online is accreddited and 100% online.
Webdev (html, js, react etc.) is a good starting point. You'll get an idea about the fundamentals of programming languages by learning js. Build a small app that has simple front end and a basic backend and db, and then learn how to deploy it. See if you like it first and foremost. And if you do, dive in. Build another app with different technologies, make a semantic analyzer in python that looks at tweets of troons. You can find good tutorials of projects online, although avoid pajeet tutorials because they usually stink.
