ATLANTA - What started as a peaceful protest against the death of a Georgia-based activist took a violent turn in downtown Atlanta Saturday evening when people began throwing bricks at buildings and setting fire to police vehicles. Mayor Andre Dickens held a press conference to discuss the matter late Saturday evening.

Demonstrators took to Underground Atlanta Saturday to honor the life of Manuel Esteban Paez Teran, a 26-year-old protester killed by Georgia State Troopers during a sweep at Intrenchment Creek Park Wednesday. That area is the planned site for the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, or what some critics are calling "Cop City."

Investigators said Teran did not comply with commands by a joint task force, and that he fired at a trooper first.

On Friday, a picture of the gun that the agency said they found on Teran was released. Officials said ballistic investigators matched that gun to the bullet that wounded the trooper.

Seven people were arrested and charged with domestic terrorism on Wednesday.

Following a Friday night memorial service for Teran, who friends called "Tortuguita," a group of protesters began a peaceful protest at Underground Atlanta on Saturday. The area is famous for hosting Atlanta's "Peach Drop" New Year's Eve festivities.

For about an hour, people dressed in black marched along Peachtree Street in a peaceful downtown Atlanta demanding justice for ‘Tortuguita’. Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said the group was originally peaceful.

"However, when that group arrived at the intersection of Ellis Street and Peachtree Street, a group inside that marching crowd decided to start committing illegal acts including breaking windows and attacking police cruisers that were in the area," Schierbaum said. The chief said some of those individuals were actors who have participated in other protests in the past.

FOX 5 was live on air when one of those vehicles suddenly burst into flames.

Individuals were also seen on camera busting out the windows of another police car.
Three businesses along Peachtree Street received damages to their windows.

"It doesn't take a rocket scientist or an attorney to tell you that breaking windows or setting fires is not protesting, that is terrorism," Schierbaum said in a press conference after the incident. "They will be charged accordingly, and they will find that this police department and the partnership is equally committed to stopping that activity."

Atlanta officials give update on downtown Atlanta protest-turned-riot

Mayor Andre Dickens told the press that many of those arrested in Saturday night's riot were not residents of Georgia.
There were no injuries reported for law enforcement or protesters involved.

MARTA officials announced that trains would not be servicing Peachtree center Station, streetcar shuttle van service has been temporarily suspended and bus shuttle service is being provided from Garnett to Civic Center servicing all stations except for Peachtree Center. Riders impacted can use the following link for an $8 Uber or Lyft credit, according to MARTA.

I cannot stand ANTIFA faggots. I can't recall the protest, but it was the one professor dressed in ANTIFA garb who smacked a guy over the top of his head with a bike lock. That's one person who should never see the light of day again.
Eric Clanton. He got away with brutally bludgeoning several people, walked away with simple misdemeanor charges. Never saw a day in jail and is already off probation.

Not only did he brag about it online and to his students, he got less than a slap on the wrist when it went to court.

I keep hoping to read that he got eaten by alligators while taking a shit in a portapotty, but life isn't fair.

Berkley. I think maybe they were protesting Ben Shapiro speaking or something. I'm sure that Ben's kike agent at United Talent set up the speech and the protest to raise his profile.

May the name "Eric Clanton" be forever remembered. This is someone who needs a light night visit with a baseball bat every year for the rest of his life. Eric deserves to live in terror.

Whenever cops screw up one of the things demanded by activists is "better training". At least it was back before they demanded we abolish and defund the police and deputize antifa.

One of the first things the police say is they need better training and need to be trained more often.

Assuming there are any sane police critics left they should be thrilled Atlanta is getting a new training center.
Training is good and most cops agree they need more of it.
The problem is no one wants to pay for it.
You have to come up with cops to cover for the ones in training and they all have to be paid.
Then there is the issue of paying for the training.
As ammo cost have gone up the number of rounds fired per year in practice by cops has dropped.

Referencing Eric Clanton if anyone crossed state lines to give him a bare handed ass whoopin' they would be brought up on federal charges with hate crime enhancements and probably would die in prison.

The devil takes care of his own.

This highly touted Day of Rage could be easily dispatched with one drone.
Not very impressive.

This will end in fire.
And it will be glorious.
