The upside of this is that the troons are pushing a total loser. 90% of parents will respond with a flat "Fuck you" to the idea that they aren't entitled to know how their children are dressing and behaving. It's an overreach that will cost the troons in the medium- and long-term. Can't wait to see it.
That case involved a state court directly going against the parent’s clearly stated decision on a question of visitation. The facts here are quite different, in that the schools are choosing not to inform parents about the child’s behaviour at school.
Singal's article and some tweets he's made point out that there's no equivalence between "outing" a gay kid vs. a trans kid because being gay is not something that requires the entire school apparatus to update its paperwork about you and collude to obscure that documented information from parents. In normal circumstances, yeah, teachers might only say something about a kid's weird habits if they break the rules, but you can't have a thick file at central office with all of Jimmy's new names and expect it to be a secret.
It obviously doesn't make sense unless you're doing what they do and trying to merge sexual orientation with gender identity. If you believe the school has no duty to inform parents of their kids being "sexually active" (down to hand holding or kissing or whatever at school) if the school incidentally finds out about it then there's no need to inform the parents about them being gay because this is the same thing. Being trans isn't similar because being trans is demanding an imposition on everyone else to comply, nobody has to do anything for a kid to still be gay, everybody else has to perform for the trans person. It also doubly doesn't apply because again nobody has to do anything with a gay kid even if we assume the parents would want to prevent it if they knew, as the trans advocates tell us the trans kid MUST transition and that requires the parents consent (otherwise even a supporting parent is harming the kid by suppressing their gender at home due to lack of knowledge, they are by their own arguments deliberately harming all trans children to protect a hypothetical trans child) unless you want to carve out an exception from everything specifically for any kid who declares a trans status. This is obviously what they want but it's simply not tenable.
