Infected Ren Faires - nerd cringe but olde timey

I went to school with a Renaissance club that also had a "Ren Faire" sort of thing one weekend of the year. I'm not sure if anyone ever went to it, but I can tell you that my feelings on them were kind of colored by the fact that if you lined up any ten of the members, nine of them would probably be part of the gross fat BDSM orgy that they also had going behind the scenes, where most of the barely-old-enough-to-drink girls from the club inexplicably considered a fat 40-something with fucked up teeth their "master."

Normal Ren Faire shit is weird, but they were something else and I can never really un-associate the two now.

Wizards and trolls are pushing things pretty hard, but I can at least see a connection between them and a medieval fair. How did the furries and weebs get into this?

If I may venture a guess, I think that vampires/werewolves must be the missing link between the broader fantasy genre and furries/weeaboos specifically

I kind of consider Renfaires to be a much cheaper version of an amusement park. I mean most range from $8 to maybe $15 per person, vs. $80 to $120+ Per person of something like Six Flags or Disney. It's generally silly, and half the time watching the fair goers are as entertaining as the actual shows, but otherwise harmless.

The Medieval fandom of Germany has also a very large overlap with Heavy Metal lolcows. There is actually a style of music known as Mittelalterrock (Medieval Rock).

Is there an American equivalent of this?

"Hey wir sind Heiden" = "Hey we're Heathens/Gentiles" (some of these have a bit of an euphoric flair!)
(The tune is the theme of a TV show based on the Pippi Longstockings tales by Astrid Lindgren.)

There is a bit of a minor feud between these bands and SJWs due to them sometimes having mildly naughty lyrics which SJWs find triggering.

The band "Feuerschwanz" ("Fiery Tail", can also be understood as "Fiery Pickle") were uninvited from a Medieval Festival because SJWs found some of their songs gave them soggy knees.

I honestly feel kind of bad for the older people who got into this scene 10+ years ago for whatever reason, loving old timey crafts or role playing with other old nerds or something, and now have to deal with an influx of idiotic attention whores wearing satin corsets and furry costumes.

Ren faire in my region happens during May. It's supposed to be some shitty little Welsh village, but anyone who goes there is either a Game of Thrones cosplayer, a high fantasy fetishist, or a guy in a kilt - and these aren't creative kilts, either, they're all Royal Stewart or Black Watch.

You know the ren faire is going on when you're going to a restaurant and there's like five or six guys in kilts and lace-up tunics waiting to be seated. I've never been to this fair, nor do I want to if that's the majority of the people going there.
