That priest would be correct (what a refreshing change of pace from priests who don’t do their job), and when Mr. Bowl and I went through pre-Cana, we even had workbooks and an online questionnaire, which we had to do separately so there’d be no bias in answers. We were shocked at how basic some of the questions were; some things we discussed on our third, fourth date. Such is the abysmal state of the marriage scene, where the future spouses don’t even know each other. As an atheist who married a Roman Catholic, I had to undergo six sessions of religious instruction before the priest would marry us. I don't remember much from that instruction, but the one thing I do remember is that the priest was insisting that marital sex was a sacrament -- every bit as important as Holy Communion or confession.
It makes me wonder if Nick and Kayla got “swept” into marriage, with an inability to wait. Her Protestant background made for an easier leap into a marriage, too. It certainly would have benefited him to have some Catholic pre-Cana under his belt, but he quickly defected. Probably the fault of his parents, and/or weak and modernist catechization.
Might explain the turn into partying and combing the wild hairs that should have been tamed by now.
