[IBBFF-002: Paisley Abbey Alien]



Paisley Abbey is a 12th-century Scottish Abbey where figures such as Sir William Wallace were educated. It has several architectural style elements owing to having been destroyed by Edward I of England in ~1300 and undergoing weather damage and general disrepair.

In 1991, while restoration work was being carried out, 12 of 13 gargoyle carvings were elected to be replaced due to extreme water damage. Their replacements were to be contemporary designs, under order from the client. As there were no original carvings left (due to a previous restoration job in the 1950s), 20 sketches of new, functional gargoyles were submitted by David Lindsay to the client. Much to David's surprise, the client approved of the alien gargoyle, and so it became part of history.
