I don't think enough people realise that children need to be taught empathy, quite young as well, or it doesn't take. It used to be instilled naturally, with parents teaching kids to be kind to brothers and sisters or pets and teachers rebuking kindergarteners/preschoolers. But these days we have more only children, very few pet owning families, and large class sizes with teachers not allowed to offer the kind of guidence needed. With the switch to so much online interaction, and a certain sort of dehumanisation of others occuring, I wonder if we need to start reminding parents to teach emapthy again?
