I did a quick subject search and couldn't find anything, so if this already exists, apologies and gift baskets all round. If this actually is the first forum HM thread, Flirtinis all round!

Basically I'm not that much of a long time player of HM, having only played Friends of Mineral Town and A New Beginning. I'm still playing ANB just because of how calming, simple and cutesy it is, especially when I'm feeling anxious.

Anyone here like playing as a little boggle-eyed farmer type person who's suddenly expected to go from being a complete noob who doesn't know a pitchfork from a potato to running a full-on farm, do everything around the town, please everyone, find a husband, get married, shit out a sprog, and give all your animals stupid names?

I love Harvest Moon, been a fan since at least 2006. My first game was Friends of Mineral Town, and the most recent one I got is A New Beginning. My favorite aspect of the series is choosing a husband/wife. (Cliff~ <3)

I used to play them when I was stressed, too. There's something about how cute and mellow everything is that really soothes you.

I love choosing a husband, but hate it at the same time, as in my opinion, in ANB, the options are pretty shite.

For those who don't know of them, *cue music*, here we have the parade of last turkeys in the shop who moved to a shitty little village because they were either loveshies who couldn't get any poontang, regular cis scum who couldn't get any poontang, or can't find work anywhere else due to general social awkwardness -

Bachelor number one: Douchebag animal salesman with no social skills and emo hair.
Pros - Is a metalhead.
Cons - Plays bass. Automatic loser.

Bachelor number two - Bitchy hairdresser who is holier than thou.
Pros - Fixes my goddamn motherfucking hair.
Cons - Is a massive bitch.

Bachelor number three - Chirpy happy happy goggles dude who sells cats.
Pros - ALWAYS happy.
Cons - Looks like he's 12. Pedoriffic.

Bachelor number four - Whingy man in pink dress.
Pros - Has awesome hair. Also he's older, so it doesn't feel like you're hooking up with a child.
Cons - Constantly whines about being old. Also, pink dress.

Bachelor number five - Doormat black guy with plait.
Pros - Is generally a really nice guy.
Cons - Complete doormat with no personality.

Bachelor number six - The fresh prince of Bel-Air.
Pros - LOADSA MONEEEEY.
Cons - Buggers off for a month every year to visit his aunty and uncle in Bel-Air.

Oh, the agony of choice!

^That's how I feel about the bachelors in A Wonderful Life. You have the douchey blonde, the greaser-like tough guy, and John Lennon. I consider myself lucky I only have the guy version.

On that note, AWL is my least favorite game. Mainly because
you actually grow old and die at the end. I know, a Harvest Moon game with an actual ending? 'The fuck? I stopped playing after I married Celia to save myself the trauma.

I'm going after the fresh prince in ANB. It pisses me off that he leaves during every fall, so yeah, it's gonna take a while. Not to mention his heart isn't even visible.

In this playthrough I'm going for the blonde douchenozzle, just because he's a metalhead. Last time I went for whingy man in pink dress just because he has amazing hair, and the constant whining really got to me!

Shit me, AWL sounds awful. I can't wait to play Story of Seasons when it comes out in the UK, looks really good!

I only played games with wives. How are they in ANB?

"I was into Harvest Moon before it was cool!" ;)

But seriously, my first Harvest Moon was the original SNES one:

Harvest Moon (U).png

(Dat 16 bit horsie...)

I loved this game, and had at least one playthrough where I managed to have two kids. It was such a fun little game, I never would have guessed it would have become such a large franchise!

The last game I properly played was Animal Parade and Tale of Two Towns. The series is still enjoyable to me, but I wish they developed the writing more as time passed by. I feel the N64 and PS1 Harvest Moons had more interesting villager dynamics than in some of the more recent ones. : / BUT, that might be nostalgia speaking.

I've only played the original SNES version. We got it one lone Christmas by random (My parents were the kind that thought Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy were too violent for children.) I didn't play it until I was about 12-14ish and fell in love with it. Unfortunately I didn't have the other consoles to follow the series (I did have a PlayStation though) so I'd just occasionally replay it

Have any of you picked up the new one? It got localized over here under a new name, "Story of Seasons" and it is pretty good. However, Natsume retained the Harvest Moon name and is confusingly making their own games that have nothing to do with the actual Japanese series. Eh, whatever. My favorite ones are the first Harvest Moon, A Wonderful Life (purely based on nostalgia from when I was little) and the new Story of Seasons.

I've been a fan since about 2004-ish, emulating the SNES version until I got a copy of Back to Nature on PS1 (as well as the original on VC several years later). Then I got Friends of Mineral Town, which I might say is tied as my favorite along with BtN. I guess they're essentially the same games.

I liked all of the additional content of HM DS, but I wasn't a fan of having to collect some absurd number of harvest sprites to do pretty much anything. It also crashed a lot, which I have never seen in a Nintendo portable for as long as I've played them (not counting Missingno-induced crashes). Rune Factory was interesting but it was kinda hard for me to get into right away. Kinda how I feel about Tale of Two Towns as well.

Picked up Story of Seasons the other day, added to the growing backlog.

Does Rune Factory 4 count? I've never played a game from the Harvest Moon series proper, but I've been addicted to RF4 for the past month.

oh gosh i love harvest moon... i've been playing it since i first got another wonderful life in 2005.. currently saving up to buy story of seasons but i'm playing a new beginning right now.

They're really pushing the new world order propaganda hard. The old Harvest Moons were really good, so that's too bad.

Iirc wasnt the team behind the good Harvest Moon games now working on Story of Seasons? Been thinking about trying the newest one but im not sure if they still have the touch

I know Stardew Valley exists but for some reason it just never hit that Sunshine Islands spot for me, SI is probably my favorite one in the series so far, but ive only played up to Tale of Two Towns, which was aight
