Microsoft is fucking butthurt no one wants Windows 11 so they're stopping the sale of Windows 10 licenses this month

Yes, decried by spergs who insisted you should just use GIMP instead of Photoshop and fuck around with Wine for your games, because the alternative is paying Microsoft something like fifty dollars (easy to get Win 11 on discount).

I've been an advocate of using Linux for things you need Linux for (which for most home users is nothing), and Windows for things you need Windows for, rather than trying to constantly hack together some bespoke solution out of FOSS and pirated software, since the beginning.
Nigga. Why the fuck should I pay MicroShaft $50 for a fucking os when I can use a linux distro that's free & does the job just as good. I can take that $50 and go pull a used car seat from a junkyard and repurpose for another $50 and it'll last longer than your precious windows *whatever fucking version we on right now*. Seriously fuck you and your disingenuous bullshit.

Also lets not pretend that windows itself isn't fucking hacked together & held together by fucking tape an greed. When an operating system literally breaks just by existing then it's not
a good fucking product.

You & matt are literally the kinds of people to suck tranny cock & then be like "It's just like having sex with real women guys."

No. You are full of shit & you should put the tranny cock back in your mouth to shut the fuck up.

I think the most jarring jump was XP to Vista performance wise. There's a reason that's considered one of the biggest tech failures of all time. Then they followed it up with IMO the greatest operating system ever created, Windows 7. Just about the only bad thing I can say about the windows 7 experience is you can't make the terminal full screen.

I find a lot of older machines still play pretty nice with Windows 10 as long as you're not using a mechanical spinning hard drive. I've upgraded to Windows 10 on a bunch of machines close to a decade old at the office, and for some reason it just doesn't work well hard drives at all. You take the same machine and swap out the hard drive for an SSD and you have a much bigger jump in performance than one would expect. Much bigger than the jump from HDD to SDD on Windows 7, for example.

One funny thing I noticed is Windows Server 2019 does not have the same issues with hard drives. Now it could just be because it's a much newer machine, is never turned off and has 64-gigs of ram, so it doesn't need to go to the hard drive often as alot of the applications are already loaded to working memory, but I wonder if there is something specific to Windows 10 that makes it not play so nice with hard drives,
Dude... right click on the header bar, properties, layout, and adjust accordingly to your screen size my guy. 😉

As far as the HDD vs. SSD, I will go to bat for the benefits of an SSD all day long, provided it's got a properly set up controller and you're not constantly overwriting it every day. Bit-decay is a thing. I think the HDD issue goes back to what I was saying about the constant bloat and increasing hunger for system resources that plagues modern computing. If system ram is full and the processor has to call back to physical memory, a SSD will be exponentially quicker than a HDD every time. Even then, its just a bandaid masking the real problem.

Have you even read this thread???

I meant more full screen like you get when you push alt+enter in Windows 10 without the window decorations and taskbar taking up a portion of the screen as opposed to a maximized Window like in that screenshot. Maybe there's a work around to do it, I don't know, I was just always baffled that such a basic feature was missing from Vista/7/8 out of the box. Apparently it's a driver issue.

Its pointless anyway. Most people are just complaining for therapy anyway. 95%+ of people who moan about Windows will still get the next version anyway.
Most complaints about a new Windows are things like, "I hate how they changed the Start menu," "I don't want my OS to celebrate homosexuality," etc. Complaints about Linux are things like "my graphics card doesn't work," "Photoshop doesn't work," "it won't recognize that my mouse has a scroll wheel," etc.

Edit: and I ALWAYS use adblock, I can’t even imagine browsing the modern internet without it.
I used to go without one on my work laptop and I don't think I can describe how prevalent ads and popups have become to someone who didn't experience it in recent times. Blogs are the worst, I run around looking for a lot specific programming stuff so devblogs are the obvious solution, half the page are ads and there's usually something popping into my face in 10 seconds or immediately screaming about cookies. I have no idea how site owners look at their side and say "Yup, this is good."

And that's the crux of the argument that most of the Linux cult just doesn't understand. Telemetry, bloat, and the clusterfuck known as Windows 8 aside, the fundamental operations of Windows are similar enough between different versions that keys can be remapped, settings can be changed, and layouts and themes can be swapped to make Win10 look and act like XP, Vista, 7, whatever. And all of your important software and peripherals will still work. A properly sorted Linux distro can and will work great (Android), but even then there is always a catch somewhere. Android aside, every other distro is gonna have some other unexpected surprises pop up when you least expect it.

I moved over to Linux years ago. Slightly after the 2005 time frame that someone else mentioned so I pretty much ignore the Windows users and their griping. Except to troll them and laugh. Linux is astonishingly easy to use provided you don't need some obscure setup or literally hardware that's less than 6 months old.

provided you don't need some obscure setup
The issue with "obscure" setups is that users have had 30+ years of Windows supremacy to find a multitude of niche interest software that is either Windows-only or far better on Windows. It may be "obscure" but in aggregate a significant fraction of the Windows userbase is using one or more of those pieces of software. It's not an irrelevant negligible group.

I simply don't buy the narrative in this thread that 99% (or whatever) of people use their computers as glorified web browsers and nothing else. It's the same gay viewpoint that Silicon Valley faggots have that the current trend is the only thing that exists.

Surprised you guys aren't talking about the giant full screen upgrade prompts that some Windows 10 users are now seeing.

Usual scumbag behavior where the option to close out this shit is a tiny link near the bottom that most users will never figure out.

Probably thinking of the LTSC edition. It's basically a cut down version of Windows 10 Enterprise that doesn't receive feature updates and has a lot of extraneous garbage removed while also receiving security updates for considerably longer than most Windows editions. (1809 is supported until January 2029, 21H2 IoT version until January 2032. Mainstream Windows 10 22H2 support ends 2024)

I do have a post on draft explaining what LTSC actually is, the various versions of it, how Microsoft Office relates to it (since they've extended the LTSC branding to that) as well as how to download it without getting raped by a trojan. One day I'll finish it and it'll be my I&T magnum opus!

This isn't the 90's anymore. 70% of my 20 year old Steam library (yes I know, Steam but whatever) works.

This is absolute nonsense. Most Windows users would be happier with a decent Linux distribution like ChromeOS.

For special snowflakes like me who need to run specialized Windows applications like SkiFree, they run fine under Wine through Crostini.

Obscure setups is a reference to exotic hardware not software. Aside from the aforementioned obscure hardware and the associated drivers, there honestly isn't a single thing you can do on Windows that you can't do on Linux and likely far better. What is expected of you is to learn how to use the new software and learn the more efficient process. Obvious they're different binaries but aside from that there isn't much you can't do with Photoshop that can't be done with ImageMagik. Again, there's a learning curve. But like I said in my first post in this thread our entire conversation is a moot point since nobody is going to take that time. So I have exactly zero sympathy for people who will just complain without trying to improve their situation. You're unhappy with windows, fine. Move away from it.

Oh, more Linux fanfiction like "Wine isn't an enormous pain in the ass that doesn't work as often as it does" and "FOSS replacements are just as good". Wonderful.

You do realize that you do more damage to your cause than good by lying to people about this stuff, right?

I'm not a tech fag so I have nothing of value to add to this conversation, but the new laptop that was given to me was already installed with windows 11 and I feel like I'm using a bootleg mac interface

Maybe I was paranoid - but I don't remember having these weird stutter issues playing my PC games. And from time to time, Microsoft would try to trick me into clicking the upgrade button upon start up of my PC.

So. I gave in. I updated.

To Pop OS (Linux). My games run far more smoother and the weird issues I was facing with Windows 10 weren't happeming.

Elden Ring plays beautifully on Pop OS along with other games. Though, not sure if I will stick with Pop OS for long as I am also digging Garuda on my laptop.

But there is no way in hell I am going back to Windows.
