Not something that happens every day.

Then imagine that the exact same fucking thing happens 4 more times at various points in your life. To you specifically. Basically the idea behind hell in Preacher's AMC series: a constant reliving of your worst memories, with alterations and changes made to tighten the screws and cause maximum suffering.
Fire and brimstone is scary enough, but experiencing the moments you actively suppress and have nightmares about is terrifying.
