Microsoft is fucking butthurt no one wants Windows 11 so they're stopping the sale of Windows 10 licenses this month

All these tophats for telling the truth to windows users who argue how bad linux is when they obviously don't use it, as evidenced by the fact they don't bother doing even the most basic research. It's always the same regurgitated points straight out of the year 2000, muh common hardware no work, muh wifi no work, muh games no supporterino, muh photoshop. It's as if they can't comprehend the idea of an operating system evolving and improving over time.

We aren't on reddit here, nobody actually cares if you use linux or not, do whatever you want. But these retarded takes about how linux is completely unusable in 2023 and how you must be a deluded autist if you just want an alternative to taking win11 cock up your ass are laughable and misinformed. This kind of mentality and encouraging people to just give up and bend over is why windows keeps getting worse and will stay on that trajectory.

You can convey your point without seeming assmad about it.

I think that's the distinction

GOD im so MAD when people don't use the right OPERATING SYSTEM!!!!
*punches a hole in my bedroom wall*

even though I will be forced to make the switch to windows 11 and be forced to do a PC upgrade.
the only thing I am looking forward is that my company will finally be forced to make the switch and get rid of their dog shit ass computers

They're "regurgitated" because such problems continue to plague Linux to this day. Why would we stop criticizing what's been a problem for 20+ years and never solved?

I also like FreeDOS. It is pretty solid and has been trucking along for a long time by now. They even got far enough now that Win 3.1 and it's undocumented stuff is supported. The lead of that project makes the comfiest youtube videos. The Bob Ross of OSes, if you will.

I see y'all are angry about OSes. I'm sometimes angry about OSes too. I do think some of you need to calm down a little though.

This just reads like an enormous cope to me. You can just say "I don't know how to do basic tasks in Linux" without using half the space you just did. Honestly I am thrilled that Linux filters non-technical users, its a bug not a feature. I'm not being sarcastic, I genuinely don't want you to use the operating system.

Even God knows how much Desktop Linux can suck ass.

Linux is the OS of choice for basement dwellers who wake up smelling like dirt, BO, and semen. The equivalent of the greasy car guy who swaps his Foxbody Mustang with an LS engine and does all of his work, so he's better than you because you don't immediately know the spark gap size of your plugs.

And it overheats if you idle for too long and the electrical system is flaky and it doesn't always take third gear properly.

But those problems are the manufacturer's fault and you're a Jiffy Lube shill if you mention them.

I get it, it's a great OS for customization. The thing is I don't have the luxury of time to research what parameters I can tweak in the kernel. So here we are in 2023 In The Year of Our Lord and Linux still suffers from the same fucking problems. Too damn esoteric, and Linux fanbois, "I don't want you using the OS."

At least these keep Linux consistent over the last 30 years, so much so haivng single digit market share is an unironic badge of honor for Linux adoption.

"It's not the car's fault no gas station in your area still sells leaded fuel."

I'd rather have one good interface than be able to choose from ten thousand half-baked ones. "Customizable" in desktop Linux parlance so often means "I hope you have time on your hands because we're outsourcing UX to you."

I'd rather use software made by people who don't think it's some kind of unjustified sense of entitlement on the part of the user to expect things to work.

A fun excerpt but Windows has a slew of problems too, good luck getting a Microsoft developer to publicly shit all over any of them. Also worth noting that was 9 years ago and he's almost exclusively referring to Debian and how they do things. I won't pretend a lot of it isn't still relevant today, however things are generally better and most people would be unaware of these issues if they're just a general user.
Linus does use desktop Linux, last I knew he was using Fedora.

I think this is the same talk where he said he had issues installing Debian. Anyone who cares to look at the version he was referring to can check out this video. If you think things haven't changed, this video is all the evidence you need to see how absurd things used to be.
I think this guy recently trooned out lmao

Linux starts with L because when you install it you're taking an L

Windows starts with W because when you install it you're taking a W
Lusers vs WINners amirite

99% of users have no need to touch the kernel. Usually when people refer to Linux being great for customization they mean all of the relevant files are able to be modified by the user hassle-free and make your experience as you see fit. So you can make the desktop look like whatever you want, the themes be whatever you want, the login look however you want, the shortcuts be whatever you want, etc etc

It doesn't have single digit adoption. This statement is perhaps the single dumbest thing said in this thread. In addition to powering the majority of smartphones (which make up the majority of internet users) Linux is also the defacto choice for servers as well. Linux adoption on the server is actually so widespread that MicroShaft has essentially given up on using Windows to run Azure. And by the way, this is not a new trend. Going back to the early 2000's the LAMP stack was far and away the most common way to run a website.

Honestly the idiots saying "Linux is unfinished", "I can't run a web browser on Linux", etc have been epicly owned at this point. My first post was essentially saying that talking about Linux on the desktop was a waste of time because of entitled users yourselves. Thanks for retardedly proving my point.

I genuinely don't want you to use the operating system.
I'm not, so I guess we're cool then?

Same response as above. If you can't read far enough to where I said "Hardware not software" you're just unable to use the machine period and everything has to be spoon fed to you regardless of compatibility.
Computers are a tool and I don't think it's an entitled viewpoint to want your tool to do its job 🤷

Go back to your Windows ghetto.
it's more of a middle class suburb actually

Honestly the entitlement from morons like yourselves is astonishing and the single reason why nobody and I mean nobody is interested in helping you fix your problems.
"my shit literally does not work"
"YOU BOUGHT THE WRONG VIDEO CARD. FUCK YOU. SHOULDA BOUGHT AN ATI CARD LIKE SOMEONE WHO ISNT FUCKING RETARDED"

>100% free to use operating system
so is Windows if you just run a couple of scripts when you install it, lol.

>Mostly free to modify (some VERY small exceptions with DRM)
not very useful if you're not a programmer with plenty of free time

>Has financial and technical support from the likes of IBM, Intel, and Google
those three companies made none of the parts in my current desktop

>Compatible with virtually every x86 (HARDWARE) based system on Earth
but not my xbox one :tomgirl:

>Has multiple free options for virtualization such as VitualBox and QEMU
same for windows

>Has free options for emulation like WINE
windows doesn't need WSL nearly as much as linux needs WINE

>Has multiple free replacements for existing software - i.e. Krita instead of GIMP
lol im not dropping photoshop

All you've been told to do in exchange for this is Read The Fucking Manual.
never had to with windows

But that's too much for you to do clearly from your post.
rude

So I will reference my first post in this thread
arrogant

Congrats, cucks.
rude

I called it. I said this in literally my first post in this thread. You're never going to do anything about your problems except complain more. For anyone left thinking "This is all Linux needs to be adopted on the desktop", "2023 is the year of Linux on the desktop", just try dealing with these people for more than 30 minutes.
mad

lmao if you dont want me using your favorite OS then just say "Just stick to Windows unless you have a specific reason for Linux, it's still very DIY and you will have to relearn a lot of stuff to get back on par with how well you use Windows currently". There is no need to get so personally insulted.

There is no need to get so personally insulted.
But there is. "Linux user" is a big part of their self-image. It's not just a stupid computer tool they use to get work done - they are emotionally invested in their OS and criticizing Linux is tantamount to criticizing them.

They'll deny it, but they'll also feel that twinge of indignant rage as they neg-rate me.

Steam Hardware Survey, January 2023:
1675633012420.png
96.02% Windows
2.61% MacOS
1.38% Linux

I figure Steam's hardware survey is good enough because it covers home computers, and while it's slanted towards gamers, seeing MacOS with nearly double the foothold of Linux in such a survey really drives home just how little Linux is used on personal home computers.

Honestly the idiots saying "Linux is unfinished",
You're the only person in the thread to use the word "unfinished" thus far:
1675633287515.png

"I can't run a web browser on Linux", etc have been epicly owned at this point.
Nobody said that either. People were discussing how ChromeOS is a Linux distro that's built around people who only use the web browser. Did you only read that part of the thread in the midst of a drug-fueled rage?

My first post was essentially saying that talking about Linux on the desktop was a waste of time because of entitled users yourselves. Thanks for retardedly proving my point.
still mad

Oh no, Microsoft uses the right tool for the job and has crushed my epic sports rivalry internet argument against the other team. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to spend the rest of the day in political threads saying "yeah the economy sucks and we're at war and biden isn't very good BUT AT LEAST HES NOT AS BAD AS DRONALD 45 DRUMPF"

A fun excerpt but Windows has a slew of problems too,
Again, no one is denying that. It's only the weird Linux zealots who are trying to pretend that criticisms of their pet OS are all unfounded.

The whole "well, Windows has problems too" tactic is irrelevant because 99.9% of Windows users detest much of Windows and merely tolerate it because it runs the applications they use. I keep saying this and it falls on deaf ears over and over.

It hasn't fallen on deaf ears, you're just conflating everyone who thinks Linux is fine with the zealots. It was worth calling out Windows issues and how it's not even discussed publicly since the context was Linus himself shitting all over Debian (not Linux) issues, some of which are universal such as how packages are handled.

I'd say Windows issues are discounted and Linux issues are inflated. Don't really care, it's very common in discussions like this all over the internet.
