He'll never go into one of these streams to lurk and see what these streamers do, either. If you look into any of the non-hot tub Twitch streams where people are actually there to play video games, you'll see everything from high level play, to people bumbling through the latest release, to just some people screwing around and having fun, but all of them, without much variance, actually engages with their audience and makes them feel welcome. That's not something Dominic is capable of, he would sooner call them an asshole for not giving him money than make sure they feel welcome in his stream chat. Like it or not, streaming for profit is a business that requires customer service, and he doesn't have the skills for it.
This is one of the things that boiled his ass on /v/, when people proposed that maybe the annoying Swede who got banned from PUBG for saying "nigger" got most of his subscribers early on because he made his audience feel welcome, and it's frankly sad that he continues to not learn this lesson. It isn't even a lesson that doesn't apply anymore, plenty of creators now are getting massive pushes in spite of the algorithm, but that's because their audiences are doing the word of mouth thing to circumvent the various platforms suppressing low-count or "not safe for advertisers" channels. Most of the people I have followed in the past five years is someone that I heard about from someone else, checked a couple videos, and liked enough to subscribe. I have never once heard "hey, you like trolling videos, have you heard of Britbong," and I guarantee you that's because he treats his audience like jizzrags instead of someone who would be interested in seeing more of him. Some people are into that, but most people, even those who are into video game trolling content, are not.
You know what, let's use his latest fixation with Minecraft as an example. What does your average Minecraft streamer do? I mean, Minecraft's a boring-ass game with a lot of grinding and jank mechanics, so why do hundreds of people tune in to watch these guys do it? Oh, they're engaging with their audience. They're going on about their thoughts on a project they have planned. They're explaining certain mechanics people don't understand. They're taking input on an idea and incorporating it if it's good. Failing all of that, they're just shooting the shit, they're just talking about hockey or whatever. Then if you switch gears and look at, say, a shooter, what does a shooter streamer do, that's a lot of high-paced action. Oh, there's a lot of downtime in lobbies, so they're just shooting the shit or discussing the previous game's tactics with their audience (NOT crying about everyone being cheaters, Dom). Gee, it sounds like all of these guys are able to connect with other people in a way that makes them feel valued, something Dominic lacks. Yet he continues to cry and bemoan all these people for having more viewers than him, and retaining those viewers for upwards of 7-8 years in some cases.
tl;dr, you don't have to sell out to be a successful streamer. You don't even need to be GOOD at the game. You just need to treat people like people, and they'll stick with you. If Dominic doesn't want to learn that lesson, well, tough shit.
