I wouldn’t sell that article short. I actually found it fascinating Karl was into abandoned mine exploration.

For those of you not familiar, abandon mines are notoriously dangerous places to be in. Active underground mines are unsafe enough but when the mines aren’t being maintained, they might as well be a tomb for anyone venturing inside. I could go on but the jist of it is it’s extremely dangerous hobby especially in the California desert. It also attracts a lot of weird people. There is a mine out by Ridgecrest, CA, that attract the locals because the deepest level and stope became flooded and it is used as a swimming hole. How fucking risk seeking do you have to be to go do that? Not to mention some of the talc mines out there could collapse at any moment because the rock is so crumbly. Even worst case imaginable: these mines are on the San Andreas fault, one earth quake could bury you under ground.

I’m sure Karl wasn’t that adventurous given his attitude in the article but interesting he got involved with that much risk in his life. Maybe a self control issue.

We need to get a grip. Karl helped raise 150k by making a video that was objectively funny as fuck.

He did it at a time that Dugan was already known for gobbing off about the chosen people, because he had MS and children to support. I've been involved in fundraisers for charities in my own life, and I appreciate someone actually making a fucking brilliant video.

I'll happily shit on Karl for all the other dumb shit he's done, and yes he has taken down other videos he did with Dugan, but Karl did the business when it mattered.

Years ago, back when they where just starting the WWSD project Karl (and Ian) wanted to prove that the plastic lower was just as good as the normal one. They did a bunch of tests and came to the conclusion that it was in fact fine (it was) but one of the tests was to do push ups with the rifle. This was to prove it was strong enough to survive abuse but apparently there were people in the comment section of that video that called Karl out. They said that he had his hand too close to where the castle nut would be on a normal lower and thus invalidated the test. Karl redid the test this time with his hand at the very edge of the stock to prove them wrong, and he did. The lower was just fine but Karl was one pissy bitch about the whole thing even going as far as throwing the rifle and complain about being called a liar.

I remember thinking "oh no, this dude doesn't get it", and here we are.

This is my problem with both Ian and Karl when it comes how weapon systems are 'abused'. Try doing a track change on a 40 year old APC in the middle of winter, all the while DS are watching you to make sure that your weapon system is always within arms reach.

When you're cold and wet, and trying to do a half dozen other tasks, dragging around a rifle is not something you want to do, and you'd happily fling it in the ditch if you were able. That's what a rifle needs to stand up to, not some bullshit 'mud test' or doing push ups with it.

You know why the SA80 wasn't an issue for years with most British Army soldiers? Because it was fucking miles better than an SLR (FAL) and the infantry trained around it by having the LSW gunner carrying spare bolts and gas parts. The firing pin shears on your twice monthly live firing... who fucking cares, at least you're not dragging an SLR as well as a belt of ammo for the GPMG and a mortar bomb.

Ian is worse because he deliberately hangs out with firearms manufacturers and museums rather than ex military YouTubers who'll tell him stuff he doesn't want to hear (Nicholas Moran being the exception) ... such as why a forward assist and a three point sling are useful.
