Yeah, because demanding that women's spaces be given to them, transing your kids, getting underage people on hormones, entering the highest levels of power in the U.S. government, etc. didn't but taking videogames from people will push society over the edge.

It happened, just like that. Nobody was fired for it, nobody had their mastercard cancelled for it, they weren't named and shamed. They ruled against troons, and they won/are winning. Granted, that's Scotland, but it's coming to another Western country near you sooner rather than later.

Those things just take time. Remember how we used to say "refugees welcome", and anybody who dared oppose it was considered to be a total Nazi? Well, fast forward 9 years and a billion rapes to now, and the mood in those countries is very different. Unironically it might. Most normies have a tangential-at-best knowledge of how trans activists are destroying women's rights, and all they're hearing from the mainstream media is how little kids will kill themselves if they aren't "socially affirmed" and "no one is doing anything to minors!!" etc. so they don't know how bad any of this is. This is all a very, very public and accessible showing of the fact that trans people and their supporters won't ever be satisfied, no matter what you give them, unless you devote your literal entire life to catering to their whims, that their suicide threats are exactly the same kind of manipulative bullshit as when your boyfriend says "if you break up with me I'll kill myself and it will be your fault!", and that their "problems" by and large don't exist. They might as well broadcast 24/7 on live television saying "we have no real problems, we're just manipulative con artists who tricked you into supporting us and now we expect you to be at our beck and call for the rest of your lives and give us whatever we want, and if you don't we'll become verbally abusive towards you and try to ruin your life!" It's not a good look to say the least, and the normies are finally the target audience for it instead of small groups of women on Twitter that nobody really knows who are.

When I think on everyday people and their problems I remember a year ago working with a dude who was going through a lot of shit. For me I was knee deep in a lot of the doomer news and trying to keep people aware of how fucked up the world was getting so when I brought some of that stuff up to the new guy he basically shut me down and went "hey I got a lot on my plate and while I wish I could get to all of that I'm really just trying to focus on not k**ling myself."

Kinda realized at that point that people take direction from news in the background of their day to day only focusing on what's in front of them. It also convinced me that most people care about the bad shit but can't really do much beyond what they're already doing.

So when a nostalgic, magical game comes along that reminds people of simpler and more hopeful times which is guarded by fierce, makeup caked trolls telling you to be miserable....well I guess it's the return of the normies.

It's humorous to point this out but I think there's actually a lot of weight behind this observation. These people are obsessed with race to the same extent that racists are obsessed with race. Beyond a certain point these two forms of obsession start to look the same, even if they have different motivations.

I was reading the ResetEra thread and was thinking it would be better to discuss it here, looking back I'm really baffled on why the Wizarding World setting took off so well, when it was so poorly thought out and helmed by an obviously underqualified woman. It's interesting to compare and contrast it to something like Star Wars, where there's more attention to detail, but Wizard stuff took off faster. I didn't think the books were really better than their contemporaries when they were new in YA fiction. Did WB just pick a good foundation and fill it in with iconic tunes(John Williams) and little mascot-like details that were archetypal for infinite sales in our culture?

I first remember seeing this theory on Tumblr circa 2014 or so. It was dumb then, too. Rowling hadn’t outed herself as a TERF yet, but it was used as an excuse to Read Another Book because Tumblr thought the original series wasn’t diverse enough — mostly because of lack of LGBTQ representation and some underdeveloped storylines like Hermione’s quest to end house elf slavery. In fact, I blame Tumblr for a lot of this: it was really the first place that I can recall seeing massive amounts of TIFs and young girls saying they were queer and obsessing over slash and MPREG. Now it appears the same discussion has both radicalized and moved to Twitter and TikTok.

That's fair, the college crowds I'm constantly around probably aren't representative of the average person, and when I think back to how my family and friends back in my hometown behave, I'm inclined to agree. People generally just stick to themselves, but if you take away the things that they love, the things that they can find joy, take pride, or engage in escapism in, they're gonna be forced to care about whatever the hell's going on.
