Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Tailspin was my go to cartoon. Funny thing Tailspin is a direct ripoff of one of my favorite live action shows Tales of the Golden Monkey that was on in the early 80's. Same concept, hotshot cargo pilot with with a seaplane, set in the late 30s - pre WW2 in the Pacific oceanic region. Constantly harrowed by enemy aircraft, shady businessmen, warlords. A bar named Louie's for the owner, Louie. Affable but dense aircraft mechanic. The hot but very business like female owner of the cargo company. To this day, I am super autistic about seaplanes because of these two shows.

Steven Universe had potential to be a really great show, but it fell off hard almost as soon as it peaked with jailbreak.
I think I would describe Steven Universe as ultimately a shallow experience.

It had a lot of potential. It promised a galaxy level epic story, magic, lore, mystery, secrets etc. I‘ll also give Rebeca Sugar some credit in that she did some good ground work like her magic system. And yes some characters were interesting.

It did feel like it was building to something great. And then… nothing. I ended up just felling empty

In hindsight it’s even insulting how much this show wastes your time with filler, boring side characters, and plots, that ultimately amount to nothing. It wants to touch adult themes like family abuse, depression, and trauma. But then proceeds to give childish solutions to those problems. “Just hug it out and cry!”

It wastes your time, because it was very obvious Rebeca had nothing to say beyond her pink diamond reveal. It’s no wonder the show peaked so early, and why she tried to do said reveal as late as she could.

For me its just peak wasted potential.

Even though the director of the original trilogy is said to direct the live-action adaptation, why is this even in the works?

I know the answer.

Y'know, why hasn't Chris made an animated movie/show about that Rescue Sirens book series he and his wife made? Or of Kiskaloo (which is actually Calvin and Hobbes-esque, and not in the fake way Phoebe and Her Gay-Ass Unicorn is, either.) Instead, this is what Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois have devolved into. Directing (or taking part in) live-action adaptations of their great animated works.

Stop the clown car, I wanna get out. *sigh*

Cartoon Network's lineup of new shows for 2023 is finally here, including a sneak peak of the new Powerpuff Girls reboot directed by series creator Craig McCracken.
Ooh! The animation for Powerpuff Girls actually looks quite good!
They might not have fucked it up?! :woo:
>the horrible live-action reboot is canned
>replaced with an animated one done by the series' original creator
>that doesn't look like dogshit
