Fetterman Checks Into Hospital to Seek Treatment for Clinical Depression

WASHINGTON — Senator John Fetterman, Democrat of Pennsylvania, who was hospitalized last week after feeling lightheaded, checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Wednesday night to receive treatment for clinical depression, his office said on Thursday.

“While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks,” Adam Jentleson, his chief of staff, said in a statement. He said that after undergoing an evaluation on Monday by Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the attending physician in Congress, Mr. Fetterman followed the recommendation for inpatient care at Walter Reed.

“John agreed, and he is receiving treatment on a voluntary basis,” Mr. Jentleson said.

Mr. Fetterman, 53, was admitted to George Washington University Hospital last week after feeling unwell during a daylong Senate Democratic retreat. He spent two days in the stroke unit, where he underwent an M.R.I. and other tests that ruled out another stroke and remained free of any seizures, a spokesman said.

The decision to seek help at Walter Reed underscored the challenges, both physical and emotional, that Mr. Fetterman has been dealing with since entering the Senate last month, a transition that has been vastly more difficult because of the strains of his recovery.

Walter Reed is a big "Military" hospital right near DC in Maryland. While it mainly serves a military purpose it's also the hospital of choice for feds and other important DC VIPs. "Asylums" as you probably think of them don't really exist. The closest thing would be mental hospitals run by state's departments of corrections. However that requires a court finding and criminal conviction. There will be (shitty, underfunded) centers in the community that are meant to be a less-dismal version of mental health care. Unfortunately they are all almost eternally at maximum capacity. There might be a research/insurance funded mental healthcare ward at WR but even that will likely have a wait list for a bed. "Hospital" is a pretty major implication though as that would mean there's an acute issue where they are a danger to themselves or others, they are in-crisis, or the admittance is not necessarily voluntary.

How it would likely go:

1. Call 911/show up at hospital and tell them about the big sad you've got going on.
2. They do an intake to get you where you can't off yourself and take things like your shoelaces.
3. Figure out what your deal is/what your insurance will cover.
4. Camp out in a room or on the psych ward (but not admitted) while the social worker "shakes the trees" to find somewhere with a 14-90 day inpatient program most-likely.
5. If he gets too bored and times out the 72 hour hold they'll force if he tries to leave, or he completes the inpatient program he does some kind of outpatient program. This is a sliding scale from like a group home, to regular meetings several times a week, or simply just regular therapy appointments. This really depends on how much your insurance will cover and how good you are at smooth-talking your social worker. Considering Uncle Sam is picking up the tab and he's a literal brain-damaged retard, he's about to be taken for a ride. This is like $150K+ in billables if providers play their cards right.

Early voting that probably happened before the delayed debate where Fetterman gave the worst performance in history, and the early voting that is extremely prone to voter fraud. So no, I'm not stupid enough to believe this was a fair election, because it wasn't.
