Yeah, that is a huge problem on a long-term level. It's fine for adaptational disorder, but terrible for chronic issues. She should be taking a small, maintainable dose to smooth the edges off and then learning to cope with any excess anxiety like an adult. If she's smothering out all anxiety and feels with large doses, that will just normalise that dosage in her body chemistry. She'll be needing to steadily up her dose to keep up, and once she runs up against the fugue cap she'll need to graduate sideways to other benzodiazepines (but there's only so many times you can do that before you start running out of varieties capable of keeping that monkey in check). Eventually she'll run up against the cap for the entire family of drugs, and her threshold for basic functionality will be confined to a dosage where a tiny bit less will rock her with DT and a tiny bit more will throw her into full-blown fugue. Your prospects of getting out of that hole once it's dug are pretty fucking grim. Throwing alcohol into the mix just lowers the ceiling between functionality and total benzo fugue, which might delay the physical grips of addiction for a while if she's being smart and clinical about her drinking, but it's pretty clear she's not.

Everyone who digs that deep ends up committing suicide. There are no exceptions. There really is no other way out for them once they hit that point. If she's being truthful about her usage, her doctor and caregivers should be fucking ashamed of themselves for enabling it.

Nah. Benzos are insanely safe when not mixed with other CNS depressants. Almost every "benzo overdose" involves alcohol, opiates/opioids, or both. It's extremely difficult to kill yourself with benzos alone.

Benzos can induce those symptoms, but you're right in that they're usually non-fatal unless supplemented with alcohol or other drugs. And there's apparently certain people who are more susceptible to the respiratory depressant side effects of benzos.

Yeah, she has some tweets that reference former roommates as well. She's posted about dinner and household chores with her family within the past few months, so considering her financial situation, moving back in with her parents after college seems like the most likely explanation.

Real talk: I don't envy anyone on Xanax. If you've gotten that far, you're on benzos for life. That's some tough shit to deal with, and hopefully it's working for you.

Nobody is mocking you for having mental health issues or for taking medication to address them. What people are mocking is your belief that having mental health issues justifies your perpetual victimhood.

Xanax is remarkably effective at breaking the panic disorder cycle. Unfortunately, a whole lot of irresponsible prescribing by doctors and a whole lot of misuse by patients has made an incredibly useful drug a bit of a pariah - and yet again the drugs which were supposed to "solve the benzo problem" have similar issues of their own.

Non-steady doses of benzo are progressive, and you can slow down the progression but you can never turn back the clock. Just by using alprazolam alone she's cut herself off from a lot of sideways graduations ; temaz, serapax, valium and k-pin are unlikely to touch her now, and it doesn't help that she's mixing in with ambien. She's gonna need to keep upping the dose and her potential graduates will be confined to shit like medaz, mog and rohypnol, which are basically terminal solutions.

At this rate she's not gonna make it past her mid-30s before she's completely out of options.

Yeah, she seems to have found herself a Dr Feel Good. The sad thing is that all of these medications are intended to help you function better. Irresponsibly prescribed or misused, they actually make you less functional over the long term - and these drugs are constantly becoming more and more restricted because a minority of people (and it is a minority) to whom they're prescribed abuse them.
