Why Fascists Like Anime: A Thesis

Why do you have an anime profile picture?

  • I want to be her (I'm gay)

  • I want to be with her (I'm autistic)

  • I don't know (I'm retarded)

  • All of the above

  • I don't have an anime profile picture

After revisiting the MATI archive, I have often noted Josh's disgust with any form of anime. I have viewed his reactions as disproportionate. Josh has always shown a great ability for having well researched opinions, but when it comes to anime, he huffs and puffs regardless of context. However he points out an interesting pattern. Anime fan's are very often extremists. And unlike other pop culture interests, (such as 40k) Anime fans are just as likely to be left and right wing. I was a very big anime fan. As I grew up, I grew out of it. Do to unrelated events I eventually became ideologically aligned with fascism. Today I would not describe myself as a "Fan" of anime as I once was. I do not look at hentai, I believe attraction to traps to be a gateway to homosexuality, and I do not have a wifu. Being on both sides of the fence independently I believe gives me a unique insight to what might be going through the mind of the typical fascist anime fan. In this essay I would like to explore my theories on a range of topics which will ultimately lead to the answer of why anime is appealing to the fascist demographic. And why an otherwise reasonble stranger on the Internet can be autistic enough to want to be associated with the culture.

I put forth that anybody who regularly consumes alternative media, particularly on the Internet, will be forced to consume some form of eastern media. Anime being the dominant form of this content. I have asked people why they look at anime, the general responses usually boiled down to one or both of these reasons; An anime show doesn't overstay its welcome by being 5 seasons longer than it needs to be. There isn't woke propaganda everywhere. When asked to articulate why anime isn't degenerate, no one could explain. More so, they didn't even argue. They simply claimed to avoid that "type" of anime. A hard to believe but not impossible notion. Going on I would like to further refine the definition of fascist. As while many claim to believe in its ideals, many do not act in such a manor. Like a homosexual Muslim, a fascist who also regularly participates in pornography is simply a larp. For the sake of this thought exercise we will assume limiting the lewdness of the anime consumed is not only possible, but a prerequisite for the true Internet fascist.

Now that we understand how extremists regularly get exposed to such things, why do they stay? And why has anime entrenched itself so deeply in the Internet crypto fascist culture? I believe the answer can be found by looking at what someone must do to become fascist. The mentality required to think critically of such a cultural taboo is a result of a mentality in which one no longer cares how they are publicly perceived. An oppositional defiance becomes an assertion of faith. The fact that if you slap a "1488" on literally anything regardless of context and it be viewed as "scary" to the status quo is perceived as humorous in modern Internet fascist culture. That or autism. However, simple jokes to not constitute a fan. The internet can and will, "joke" about anything. Going forward a "true" anime fan will be defined as someone with an anime profile picture. As a profile picture is how you present yourself in an internet culture, they are putting this art style at the forefront of the internet persona.

Autism aside, why would the internet fascist continue to participate beyond anecdotal jokes? Things such as forum profile pictures prove a genuine interest. Why are anime profile pictures perceived as acceptable by anyone? This is tricky for me, as even when I was an anime fan I viewed people who chose a female WOW character so they could "stare at is ass all day" cringe. People will often claim that their reasoning for having an anime profile picture is rooted in the same motivation. This is obvious bullshit. I do not believe anime fans to be lying, they are simply emotionally immature, as even in first person video games such as VRChat people still choose to be anime girls. Why? Is this proof that anime itself is just yet another gateway to homosexuality forced upon us by the bug people? Many anime fans fascist or otherwise admit, they do not know. I have interviewed many people in this game. Interestingly, both homo and heterosexual men fervently insist it has nothing to do with their sexuality. Though none could articulate why beyond simply liking anime aesthetics. I only began to believe this after interviewing a homosexual male couple. Both were cuddling and both had female avatars on. Only after observing female anime fans in the same environment did I find the answer.

Go into VRChat there is an interesting way to tell men and women apart. Men dress like women who dress like anime. Women dress like women who dress like whores. Try this and you will be amazed at how remarkably consistent this rule is. My conclusion for why people use female anime PFPs regardless of gender or sexuality is because anime is ultimately an inferior art form with occasionally superior storytelling. A male anime character's only hairstyle only has one or two variants and can't even have fascial hair without looking weird. Whereas female characters can have bows, hair ties, multi colored hair, piercing's etc. It shows a consistent art aesthetic that is easy to learn and change to make your own. It expresses personal interests without reveling any personal information and is ultimately a way of compartmentalizing ones personality for various circles on the Internet.

Please post any questions or counterpoints.

I disagree with your premise that those who want some entertainment other than vapid recycled goyslop are "extremists".

They want to be entertained, not proselytized to. It's not radical or extremist to be repulsed by Clown World agitprop. It's perfectly normal to be disgusted and angered at this insulting garbage.

As for anime in particular? Well, in my case, there's something so delightfully...shitposty about it. It's obnoxious. It's autistic. It's guaranteed to anger people with sticks up their asses. It's a nerdy middle finger to a morally sick world.

Look at this image. The smugness. Does it not ooze contempt? Does it not say, "this is a person who gives no fucks"?
I like cute girls.
And this. It's pleasant to the eyes and ears. It makes you feel like a retard, but one that's happy and carefree.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced that the rot isn't coming from anime.

It's coming from inside the American mind.
Interesting hypothesis sir. However I do not view these as mutually exclusive. I've been to two anime conventions in my life one in 2008, one in 2022 (I was invited)
As a young teenager, I felt that the convention was age appropriate. There was adult stuff but it was properly cornered off and hidden. Now anime conventions are just hentai conventions. coomers have this weird mentality where they think just because its softcore means its not porn. This is an actual picture I took at the convention of some random guy.

at no time did I insinuate that one had to be an extreamist to like anime. I agree anime is very shitposty. I do not agree it is a middle finger to a sick world because much of the sick world also likes anime.

Hell, I’d argue that at this point, simply the fact that we’re not constantly bombarded with hearing about the personal lives and politics of everyone involved in creating it is a draw.

When it comes to western entertainment, I feel like I’ve seen a little too much of how the sausage is made in recent years, and that can make it hard to get immersed in anything.

Sometimes you just want to watch dudes beat she shit out of each other or cute girls do cute things, and take it all at face value.

the fact that some of the most popular anime in the west (other than shonen) are ones that are interpreted as satire (one punch man, baki, jojo) would be evidence of what you are saying.

Fair point. Let me rephrase that: it *can* be *used* as a middle finger to a sick world. Then again, so can any other meme or form of medium. It just happens to be the one I like.

Take, for example, when all those journalists migrated to the Fediverse because Musk bought Twitter. Watching them get ruthlessly bullied by people with cute little cartoon girl avatars will never *not* be funny.

I've had it up to my neck with Whedon wisecracks as cruise control for comic relief, or blackpills as cruise control for "realism" or "subverting expectations" (fuck you GRRM and HBO for starting this trend).

Japan shows how much better and efficient a country can be when it's mostly homogenous, everything's cleaner, better maintained, people care more about whatever it is they're doing than the US.

Meanwhile the US is turning into one great big broken down ghetto or if it's not that, it's suburban sprawl that is often lifeless, Japan takes more care into building architecture that looks pleasing to the eye, modern America meanwhile uses this weird corporate brutalist, minimalist style that seems designed to make you feel despair, gone is the "lovably tacky" styles you used to see in the 90s and 00s (look up the Planet Hollywood restaurant in Orlando Florida and what it used to be and what they turned it into for a perfect example of what I'm talking about)

Our media reflects this, anime still has a genuine feeling of wanting to entertain you, almost all of American media now is dedicated to making you swallow Woke ideology and despair, America has turned into a country that seems to on purpose want to demoralize you and make you despair, Japan, for all it's faults, doesn't suffer that same sort of mentality.

And if you're not happy with the current state of things, increasingly that's labeled "fascism" and anime offers a very stark contrast to the American cultural zeitgeist.

Also TLDR it's just aesthetics, anime is drawn to be pleasing to the eye, American culture celebrates the ugly and off putting, if you're not content with that, anime can't help but offer a pleasing alternative.

It shows a consistent art aesthetic that is easy to learn and change to make your own. It expresses personal interests without reveling any personal information and is ultimately a way of compartmentalizing ones personality for various circles on the Internet.
This is a pretty on point an observation and explains why I always use anime girl pfps.
