Microsoft is fucking butthurt no one wants Windows 11 so they're stopping the sale of Windows 10 licenses this month

that only works if you trust microsoft enough to not conveniently reset or ignore it, depending how much they want you to have windows 11.

what you gonna do, reinstall 10 or stop using win11?
It's been like three years. I think it's working.

Been seeing a lot of comments in this thread from Windows users complaining about updates or getting forced to upgrade to Windows 11. If you use Windows (for anything other than gaming) to begin with I already assume that you're at best only moderately technologically capable and so I present to you the most retard-proof means of editing "uneditable" Windows settings, preventing updates entirely and giving you the ability to toggle on and off all of the most annoying or intrusive features on Windows, O&OSU10. Download it. Carefully read the settings and toggle the things you don't want Windows doing off. Any settings you are unable to understand the meaning of, either do not touch or ask me and I will try to clarify what it means.

Honestly though I personally recommend people grab a beginners Linux distro and when you "need" to use Windows just run it through a QEMU VM with GPU passthrough and you literally won't notice a difference (a properly configured QEMU setup with GPU passthrough gives performance comparable to a bare-metal Windows installation, even for games).

Just pick the right tool for the right job when it comes to OS

I'm actually tempted to do this than dual-boot.

I'd be fine upgrading to Windows 11 if I was sure it wouldn't break literally all my user settings (firefox bookmarks, saved passwords, installed programs on another drive etc.) but I have a gut feeling that it'd be a clean install and I'd have to spend a good few hours trying to work out if I've permanently lost anything.

I understand that a bunch of shit in the update is too big to just retrospectively add to Windows 10 without resetting everything (direct storage for one) but I simply don't care. I've got a PC that I mostly use for web browsing, a few games and writing (which I've done in LibreOffice for the past few years because I fucking hate Microsoft Office post 2003). If Windows keeps being a pushy little prick I'll just go back to Debian like I had for like 3 years without any real issues.

I used to think 10 was alright.

An older family member got a crazy cheap integrated PC with win 10.

I got it faster via some overclocking and power management shit but still unbearably slow.

Went over to visit the other day and he got a friend to put on win7. It’s fucking amazingly fast now, still runs all the bloatware he wants no issues.

I hate the antichrist.

Might be the disk. I find 10 unbearably slow without an NVME SSD while 7 was still kind of usable on a normal hard disk.

It's been working for me too. I get annoying notices sometimes. But fuck Microsoft. It's satisfying clicking them off. It's like I'm saying "Fuck you" every time.

It boggles my mind that allegedly technically competent people ITT gripe about the dreaded centered taskbar on W11. You know you can change that shit so it's to the side right? Or is that one of those stupid things where only the """PRO""" edition has such advanced functionality?
or I'm just an autist and misunderstood something idk

The start/task menu or whatever can only be centered or moved to the left. You CANNOT move the task bar period.

It's fucking microsoft, like they couldn't build it to move the task bar? Are they lazy or retarded?
I don't know why they do anything they do. All anybody wants is an updated Windows 7.

All this sperging out over the past few pages is just over that. Nobody wants to really 'deal' with jank as fuck Linux. Windows 7 was peak usability and reliability. The only reason this slapfight is happening is because W11 has become so garbage that it's now on par with an OS so fragmented that it's own users are in a perpetual Civil War over things that Windows users didn't even know people could spergout over (systemd, flatpaks, desktops, etc.)

Can you change it into not being a fucking webbrowser?

SUPPOSEDLY, the W11 UI was built from the ground up so it doesn't have feature parity with W10, but that doesn't excuse just how retarded this is.
I don't believe that for an instant. Search works the exact same way, the file explorer works the exact same way, the context menu works the exact same way. They just took the already-gimped Win10 start menu and tried to make it like a dock, which made it even more gimped than it already was.
