Refusing to crack it would be a stand with the troons, refusing to touch the game DRM due to its controversy as a stand to keep "the wizard game" paywalled.

It's more the challenge for these types of people it was always about the challenge, bragging rights at being the person/group who did it first. If you aren't first you are last but if you fuck up the crack they will nuke your release.
There was a great amateur web series called "the scene" interesting insight into some of the workings.

I'm sure other sceners are now going to start screeching but I'll be watching subreddits for the heartbroken trannies losing their shit because even a cracked copy is haram.

The typical argument is that if people like a game they play for free, they might buy an official copy later to support the creator (esp if it’s a fledgling indie studio/one man operation, part of a fandom, or on one side of a controversy). Thus piracy leads to sales that otherwise wouldn’t have happened. While I’m sure that happens sometimes, the vast majority of people who pirate games do it because they want to have games they like from creators they like without paying for them.

IMO media piracy is a net neutral thing and I couldn’t care less even if it did equal lost sales.

I mean, the game was gonna get on their list and get cracked eventually, its just odd the game trannies wanted to be pirated was also the one denuvo game among all denuvo games Empress decided needed to be made top priority to crack in the shortest ammount of time possible and made a really personal statement to do so...

I used to pirate shit, but I stopped because it's a hassle and I'm not a poor child anymore.

If video game piracy, which is that simply most people can engage in it, was that much of a threat the video games industry wouldn't be going from strength to strength.

Most people will pay for convenience.

I was very very on the periphery of the 90s scene. Shit back then was wild to get up first. One group I knew deployed multiple teams on scooters, one per disk, to get a copy of Ultima VIII the moment a distributor opened in the UK. They split up the disks and rode back to their places to parallel-upload the data to the cracker who then gave images to couriers (people with multiple modems) to parallel-upload it to the big scene BBS of the time.

During this process one passenger fell off a scooter and was left to be picked up later. The driver didn't even stop to check, the mission had to be executed.

(pity the game wasn't worth all that.)
