The African Union is awkshoolly a fairly competent international association and is probably the best hope for Africa to cooperate in un-shitholing itself. Multiple peacekeeping operations have been run pretty successfully under the AU banner (and with minimal Western involvement! A miracle), it facilitates a lot of cooperation and diplomacy, all in all it's done well

The result of all this, of course, is that Ukraine will never get the Donbass or Crimea back. Ironically the US itself created the very legal precedent for this by recognizing the illegal "Republic of Kosovo".

the major difference between these situations is that the driving force in kosovo is actually self determination. burgers aren't trying to make kosovo their 51st state.
whereas in ukraine the driving force is just a russian land grab. neither crimea nor the four occupied oblasts ever had genuine independence aspirations, it was always a charade, a lie, a thinly veiled stepping stone towards annexiation by russia.

tl;dr it makes a big difference whether a territory is trying to break away to achieve independence and self-rule, or whether a foreign state annexes it by force.

for the record: i strongly dislike albanians, i think kosovo should be part of serbia, and i wish we could deport all the shqips and bosnian muslims across the bosphorus where they belong. but overall the kosovo situation is too different to donbas or crimea to draw any meaningful parallels.

The problem with that is even if you're just retaking ones territory and own populace there are better ways to go at it. If Mexico and Canada attempted to retake land that was taken by the Americans in the 19th century and conquered by them via force and got their collective shit kicked in by a larger foe outside at some point you gotta accept the house of cards. Any united Serbia is unfortunately a problem for all it's neighbors. It's one thing where Croatians, Slovenians, Bosnians, Albanians, and Macedonians can all agree on Serbians should be kept in check.

Second of all, Kosovo is a fucking different issue than Crimea. Kosove declared independence, Crimea was annexed. You can compare Kosovo to South Osetia or other Trannystan, not Crimea, be serious.

Third of all, after 1945 was few 'illegal' seccessions (first of all: Rhodesia ad further Zambia&Zimbabwe; second of all: Eritrea), that was after some time recognized, but they was no fuckin annexations other than fully recognizet state joining other fully recognized state.

From a bit of an iffy source but I've heard others say similar things. Seems the ukies pushed the Russians out of the area, replenished the anti-tank minefields, and fell back a bit, and are keeping a constant eye on it with artillery to prevent infantry from removing the AT mines.
