It's utterly surreal to watch them try to tiptoe around the fact that Omar Mateen was Muslim, or that this came from a place of religious extremism. We were hearing everyone sound the usual conservative Christian accusations, they talk about how LGBT victims are at always at risk from American intolerance and hatred and then we find out ooops.... he was a Muslim following ISIS.
And then there is a deafening silence, followed by delicately stepping around that fact.

Shit, she's a heartless bitch. Even if you don't feel any particular sympathy for the victims, they died wrongfully, most people with compassion can at least try to put their personal politics on hold to show basic empathy for the surviving family members of those who died, or at the very least mourn an incident of mass wrongful death.

And those other assholes aren't exemplars of humanity either.

Seriously. Fuck every one of them. People all over the world are expressing their solidarity online and you chucklefucks who can actually be at the spontaneous gatherings which are happening in the US for people to unite in grief and help each other make sense of this are being keyboard warrior because that way you can keep it about you.

If you "don't have the spoons" to leave your keyboard, then at least start an #I'llridewithyou campaign. Something - anything - which will benefit the people this is going to directly affect.

What's even more interesting is that Nora and her peers complain endlessly about cis gay men and how privileged they are compared to nonbinary whatevers like they are, but for some reason now feel that they can speak for those cis gay men after today's events...

You know what I think of when I think of Christian persecution of gays? I (and I assume a great many others) think of this guy:

That's Pastor Fred Phelps, of the Westboro Baptist Church, one of the most visceral advocates for violence against gays, and do you know how we remember him now? As one of the most fucking hilarious cases of unintentional advocacy for gay rights in the history of human endeavor. His mere existence broke barriers and caused people to champion gay rights because fuck that guy. The reason the argument that Christians continue to persecute gays is fucking laughable is because of Pastor Fred. From people mocking his protests to the infamous incident where Michael Moore deployed the Sodomobile, Pastor Fred ultimately, wound up in the unenviable position of being in a world that moved on without him.

Even his death was fucking hilarious. He was excommunicated by his own church for having an outbreak of common-sense and realizing he might not quite be on the winning side of history, only for his family church to label him ONE OF THOSE GAYS, and he died disgraced. And there was considerable laughter, for he had essentially shed his humanity and became a living meme. His cause is in tatters, his power base broken. His church is a joke and their ability to accomplish jack and shit is in steep decline.

This is the face most people from our generation assign to opposition to gays by Christians.
This is also, however, what people like Nora think constitutes oppression.

Also, at actual demonstrations and protests I've seen disabled people, old people, infirm people, preteens and kids who got there of their own volition, people who I know have other shit that they have to do etc. Nora is a lazy piece of shit and most likely is avoiding any IRL activism because she would be required to show actual effort towards a cause and not be the center of attention for once. She is first world privilege personified.

Phelps was a piece of shit and so was his whole family/cult. However, people murdered by Fred Phelps and his entire group: 0.
