I ain't well versed on laws or press, why does DeSantis want this??
It is being dishonestly portrayed as something specific to DeSantis but it was introduced by a state senator and would apply to writing about any elected member of the executive or legislative state branches. I am not a Floridian but I think it is relating to the recent push by DeSantis to make it easier to file defamation suits, and the law to protect Floridians from big tech censorship.
I do think the way the law is written is a little too vague, but I appreciate the general idea and the attempts to reign in private interest using big tech and media to spread their political narratives. I don't see how it is an encroachment on free speech to have to be transparent about your funding. And I respect that Florida is trying to use their state laws to prevent outside forces from controlling FL politics.

I recently tried to track down funding of political media narratives in Washington state on the Catboy forum and was struck by how frustrating it is to be able to find which PACs are donating to opposition media for a candidate yet it's impossible to figure out exactly what media and narratives are being seeded. I personally think these types of rules would benefit people to be able to understand who is creating the narratives given to them in the media about politics.

Kat (kateisdeflate), previously skeptical of Tony's genocidal claims, now thinks that "it. could. happen. here." ("it" is left unspecified.) Featuring a cross-over with Elliot Dong-Long-Gone's pet Sage Lukahn:

I am sick of seeing people begging for fascism so they can side with the state and turn in their enemies while pretending to be scared of the possibility. (No, these people will not be the ones standing up to it, they constantly demand you obey the current state no matter what.)

Edit: That was low effort (the image is from November), so here's instalment 94 of "Tony is wrong about history":

Why is Tony concerned with this bill which applies to bloggers who are paid for their blog posts about politicians?
Funny, because this is what Alex and Tony explicitly wanted and were saying was going to happen under current laws with the Kiwi Farms. Only it was going to be far more than fines supposedly.

Idk, I'm not comfortable with extending this to small, one-off bloggers.

Large newspapers with a formal corporation structure and large legal resources aren't on the same level as some random blogger with a tip jar on their site.

If the blogger is writing as an individual, they're personally liable for defamation actions and they don't usually have an editorial staff to keep them from getting sued. The line between libel and sensationalist journalism is a line they're usually navigating alone.

The risk of a defamation suit should be good enough to keep them honest.

I shouldn't have to be doxed to financially support someone like Andy Ngo.

All this talk of books being banned... These idiots do realize that just means from libraries, right? Like, you'll probably still be able to go into Barnes and Noble or go on Amazon and buy it!
Legally speaking you cannot ban books in any state due to the first amendment unless its CP, having books removed from libraries isn't banning them, it's literally just removing them for one reason or another

This is true, although public or school libraries are subject to limited first amendment considerations.

They can't remove material for politically biased reasons. And content reasons need to be specifically something like "this is inappropriate for children", and they'll be sticklers about what that entails.

You probably couldn't get a book removed from a school library that discusses a PG gay relationship if other books exist that discuss PG hetero relationships.

Like they don't get the same first amendment protections a bookstore gets, but schools also don't get 100% discretion either.

Edit: And while Tony and Weird Al and their merry band of perverts can sometimes have a point on this issue if you really squint at it, they'll definitely try to make outrageous claims about how this means they gotta stock elaborate anal sex guides (with a lengthy section on "gender affirming" fisting practices) in school libraries.

So it turns out that Tony is the problem, not GOP legilsatures, "fascists", or transphobes.

"WASHINGTON — Teens and young adults who reduced their social media use by 50% for just a few weeks saw significant improvement in how they felt about both their weight and their overall appearance compared with peers who maintained consistent levels of social media use, according to research published by the American Psychological Association."

Tony is now a constitutional and insurance law expert.

The bill’s provision also lacks precedent in law, according to trans activist Erin Reed. Reed noted that no employer is liable for a surgical procedure a decade later simply because the company’s health insurance covered the surgery. Reed also warned that the bill might conflict with a federal law that limits the role states can play in private health plans.
Florida bill would force companies to pay for transgender ‘detransition’

The only argument advanced by actual lawyer Catfish Caraballo is the Florida is "just trolling."

" Caraballo called it a “troll bill” designed to encourage companies to stop covering gender-affirming care."

They act as if they don't have their IRL names and photos connected to themselves. The problem with trooning out on the internet and replacing your username with your new real name is that you're easy as fuck to dox.
It sounds like an extension of dark money laws, so you'd have to report who is funding political speech. It seems like a bad bill to me that almost goes into malicious compliance territory, like it's just been filed to prove that Democrats would totally support it if it were introduced by a Dem to target grassroots conservative movements. @Tard Whisperer is probably right that it's related to breaking the internet to force transparency. The DeSantis wing is definitely trying a bunch of different tactics to see what works. It seems to me like such a rule should only apply to bloggers who are actually employed by someone, not just "supported" by various donors. But then you would still run into issues like Semafor, a media company that's really just a Substack, which had Sam Bankman-Fried as an angel investor and got criticism for being compromised about coverage of SBF and the crypto collapse of FTX. They might be trying to get more financial transparency to keep up with new kinds of media, but I think they're casting the net way too wide.

I don't know, Erin Reed's son is getting dangerously close to being a tween, that's when you first start rebelling... his son might be the one to go instead if Reed keeps sending him away for cheap childcare...

If there was a cyber attack and there was no internet for 90 days a lot of people's mental health would improve. Especially troons that are constantly online.
This is why I like to call troons terminally online. Just look at Keffals, most likely addicted to crack or some shit, and addicted with being online. They destroy their lives to score internet points instead of going outside, touch some grass, and find out what real life is. Would love to see a study on troons trying to troon out and keeping them off the internet, I am almost entirely convinced they wouldn't want to troon out after being in the real world for a while.

Fully agreed. Social media was a mistake in specific. If I remember right you could only do so much online back in the day when you think on it - merely browsing personal and basic-made sites and had to actively seek out places to chat and communicate with others in real time, and both limited your time to zone out like people do nowadays.

I truly root for Twitter to die every day.

I don't think anyone is confused on this fact. The issue is that DeSantis passed broad, confusing, punitive laws about which books are allowed in school libraries. Why should I have to order a book on Amazon for my high schooler that should be available in the school library? It is dumb. Just because Tony is dumb does not mean that these laws being passed in Florida are also not dumb.

RT what you see about her you fucking cowards.

In October 2015 Warren Cashay Henderson killed another man, Temujin Ghangis-Khon Kibo-Gue, with his car and then fled the scene. Warren Cashay Henderson then returned to the scene of the crime and confirmed that he had killed Temujin. Instead of turning himself into the police, Warren Cashay Henderson then went on the run by driving to Texas, Ohio, and Illinois, before driving home to Wisconsin. Warren Cashay Henderson pleaded guilty to killing Temujin Ghangis-Khon Kibo-Gue and was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

Warren Cashay Henderson does deserve to be known and remembered for this!
