Because that's the modus operandi of many platforms. Offer something that the mainstream platforms don't. Acquire an install base due to that offer. When the numbers are sufficient, cuck out and rescind that offer. Sell the platform for as much as you can while you can, because you always knew you were never really gonna compete with the big guns.

In a case like this I feel they'd make very little on an offer like that simply because of the audience they attracted.
