I've known a fair few people who tried what Rhys is doing, and it rarely works out. I suspect Rhys would rather face satan himself than what South Carolina trashballs are going to do to his "investments". I knew a high school teacher years and years ago who owned houses in some decent working class neighborhoods around Detroit. The story that still keeps me out of being a slumlord is the tenant who pulled all of the wire and plumbing out of the house, flooding the basement and first floor, and left a fighting pit in the wreck with a "waist high pile of dog food". Guy got bit really good before the dog took never to be seen again. I'm not sure how true the story was, but he had a gigantic scar on left forearm.
The funny this is that he wasn't telling a cautionary tale to scare me off, he was trying to convince me to buy shit shacks with him. He must've thought it made him sound cool and dangerous. I don't necessarily think that's going to happen to Rhys, but he will absolutely have his own horror stories before he sells those trailers for a loss. And I bet he'll brag about them, too.

I'm going to do something monumentally stupid and give Rhys some free advice:
- He's counting on the trailers being worth something when he dies. They won't be. Chances are they've already begun to lose value with the housing market slump. This will pass by the end of the decade, but he is not getting the money back that he put in. That's not the end of the world, but the income from those properties need to be put aside for a downpayment on their replacements. Trailers are cheap and he owns the land, it's time to think about what's going to happen when the buildings are unlivable. Do you sell them for peanuts or tear down and put up new construction?
- Being an absentee landlord is damn dangerous. Rhys is a self identified handyman. He needs to move back to Charleston so he can maintain the trailers. I'm not talking about being nice to the tenants, everybody knows Rhys doesn't give a flying fuck about them, but so he can put off replacing them for as long as possible.
- Rhys should not be spending one penny of his rental income. If he's dreaming about $2M, he is not wealthy enough to be spending money on himself.
- I know that he hates America and especially South Carolina, but that's where his money is and he needs to be there to oversee it.
- He should never go this long between buying properties. If he's going to make his money in real estate, he needs to act like it. People who buy and sell houses... buy and sell houses. He's trying to be a slum lord, but he isn't trying nearly hard enough.
- Rhys needs to find the joy in working. Lazy men do not accrue wealth on their own. It is impossible. I expect a PhD to know this.

See the update from a coach at the bottom of the Deadspin article: this girls' team is part of a competitive league called an OTM League, which is made up of the best players from all over the district. Each school also has a School League where its own kids play. So the OTM League wanted to use a certain school gym to practice in. The school allows this on three conditions:
- The OTM League must participate in School League games. There is limited space and time available in the school gym. This policy allows more kids to get gameplay time while sharing the facility.
- Since the OTM League players are much better than the School League players, the OTM team must play against a School League team two grade levels up,
- Only School League teams can win trophies in the School League. OTM teams are not eligible for the trophies.

“A group home for trans people?” There have been two attempts in recent years to start a commune for trans people, and both of them failed horrendously. What’s holding troons back isn’t the transphobic world, it’s themselves. Troons are unmotivated, lazy and entitled.
