Um ackshually Trump tosses the Death Note because he realizes the risk it poses, while also recognizing that as long as everyone believes it is in his possession, the threat that he could possibly be using it gives him just as much power with none of the risk.

Makes sense. The whole comitee was entirely anti-Trump and focused on simply rubber stamping the conclusion that Trump needed to go. They never cared about any of it.

Then the question becomes what happens when Iran gets nukes. I’ve always been convinced they’ll move straight to “find ways to launch at the United States and Israel”.

This will assuredly be the plan. Not with intent to literally strike, but nukes are only appreciable threats if you can put them where your enemy lives. Israel is a 'relatively' easy target just from proximity, being able to strike the US is the much more difficult one.

They'd never win a nuclear war with the US even with the ability to reach out like that, but its about asking the US how many cities are worth putting at risk for it. They're a useful tool to help avoid sudden and spontaneous freedom on your shores.

They might (emphasis on might), but it won't be for long. An Iranian nuke is a hard no-no for Israel, and unlike the the usual US leadership won't hesitate to launch a full-scale attack to wipe out any concerted effort at making one.
