Lizzo Said Bigotry “Wouldn’t Fly” If People Explained Why They Were Racist, Anti-Trans, Or Anti-Fat

Lizzo doesn’t care why people are bigoted but does believe the answer would explain a lot. In a series of tweets Wednesday morning, the “About Damn Time” singer said if people understood the root of people’s racist, anti-trans, and anti-fat beliefs then there would be less support for bigotry.

“Transphobia is lookin real rooted in racism right about now,” Lizzo wrote in her first of several tweets amid the rise in anti-LGBTQ, and specifically anti-trans, legislation sweeping Republican stronghold states.

On Tuesday, the Arkansas Senate approved a bill that criminalizes transgender people from using restrooms that align with their gender identity. The bill now heads to the Arkansas House, which has a Republican majority.

Additionally, governors in six Republican states — Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Utah — have recently signed bills restricting medical care for trans youth.

In response to the wave of anti-trans legislation, many celebrities have vocalized support for trans communities, including Lizzo. In a follow-up tweet, she said she hasn’t seen people explain their bigotry and believes doing so would be illuminating.

“I’ve never heard a person say why they’re racist… Or fatphobic.. I’ve never heard a reason why someone is transphobic,” Lizzo wrote. “I think if we knew ‘why’ these people felt this way there would [be] way less support for these ideals. Because the ‘why’ is more insidious than we realize.”

In a third tweet less than an hour after her second post, Lizzo said if more people understood what fueled people’s bigotry then there would be less complacent silence and apathetic participation “wouldn’t fly.”

“Don’t get it twisted— I don’t care why people are bigoted. That’s a waste of my imagination,” Lizzo wrote. “I feel like there’s a lot of complicit silence and apathetic participation going on that wouldn’t fly if people knew more.”

In addition to bills targeting the transgender community, there’s been a rise in Republicans trying to regulate drag performance. On Thursday, Tennessee became the first state to ban drag performances from the public eye or in the presence of minors.

Other celebrities like Gabrielle Union, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Sheryl Crow have openly supported the trans community in light of the ongoing politicization.

In Uganda we are against criminals, Drugs and thug culture are being celebrated like in the west. We are against children being molested by men dressed like women and exposed to sodomy at school. All the stuff Americans support and forces on other nations.
They know da wae.

I've never seen a right-wing extremist who wasn't interested in providing an autistically detailed explanation for why he is racist/fatphobic/transphobic/etc.
it's a trick so they can have a teachable moment. They ask you to explain why you're racist and then try to lecture you about systemic racism and privilege; they overwhelm and wear you down with facts and stats.

there's nothing funnier than watching one of these fat broads that give the presentations get hysterical because some old dude keeps saying "I don't care why they commit crimes, they're criminals, that's all that matters to me".

Easy. I'm racist because it always seem to be alot of unwanted actions tend to be perpetrated by a large number of people from that certain racial demographic. The more you have to cover that up, the harder it is to actually come to a solution. I'm transmisic because there is no justifiable reason to literally mutilate your children, force them to take hormones and pain killers in a vain attempt to change their chromosomes. Then there's fatphobic. Damn right I'm afraid of fatness! Alot of health complications stem from being fat. Diabetes and high blood pressure are not good things to have ever. Especially as you get older. Your hospital will love to charge you for treatment, but going through the complications caused by those two, not fun at all.

Then again all this 'phobic' stuff are excuses to get away from responsibility.

That's why it throws them off when someone just laughs in their face and repeat the meme. These zealots don't care about 'education' but indoctrination. Just like Tumblr before. Because even if you have all the evidence, they will try to side-step or ignore it and continue their gospel. So, the solution is to literally troll them and make them look like immature clowns.

These are demoralized people as Yuri Bezmenov mentioned in his lecture. Facts don't matter anymore. Only time they'll change their tune is if they receive a kick on their ass. But by that time, its too late.

Why should anyone listen to a person whose one professional achievement is clapping her enormous ass cheeks?

“Transphobia is lookin real rooted in racism right about now,”

Maybe you should examine why so many black gay men and lesbian women feel the need to troon out? Couldn’t be because of the rampant homophobia in the black community?
