I don't get who the Advance Wars reboot is intended for. I just can't imagine someone who's never played one of the games seeing the reboot and not only getting excited for it, but staying excited for it after it was put back on the shelf because of World War III for a year, or however long it was. I mean, I'm sure they're out there; pedophiles do like that Cal Arts style and are braindead enough to not know how to into GBA emulation, but the last time Advance Wars had a drastic shift in aesthetics and tone was the last time there WAS an Advance Wars game.
Turn-based strategy on a grid where the focus isn't on character interactions and an epic story is also seemingly a very niche interest these days. It's not like Fire Emblem where it makes you feel like someone loves you and you make their numbers go up and fry your dopamine receptors. It's just strategy with the lightest of world and character dressing, unless they're writing something entirely new. Wayforward writing sucks, which is why their popular games all feature woman wearing revealing clothes
Is it for old fans who want to see a fresh take on the series, and possibly give another shot at exposure? Well, to me, these games look like 2000's 4Kids versions of games that I've been able to play on my phone for, like, 15 years. Sure, online multiplayer might be nice, but Advance Wars By Web exists, and the dorks who still give a shit about Advance Wars are on there already without needing to cough up a subscription fee for the privilege. You just play it and it looks like Advance Wars, and there's tournaments and ELO, and you're not forced to play matches in one sitting because of Nintendo's shitty servers.
but maybe none of it fucking matters and somehow the reboot will break the advance wars 9/11 curse
