When you find yourself in a competitive space and have absolutely nothing to offer that's superior to your rivals, the only remaining avenue for a desperate entity is negativity and tearing others down in an attempt to lower them beneath your level in perception. This is true in every area of life and any field. It's a pitiful, sad, and desperate tactic utilized by those who can't stand on their own merits and have zero faith or confidence in themselves/their product/their organization and what they bring to the table.

It's especially futile and repulsive once you've been rebuffed and your target has committed to another prospect to that degree. Sometimes it can work early on, but you still need to strongly pair that with what sets you apart. His lengthy impotent rage and seething jealousy betrays his underlying recognition that, despite his delusions of grandeur and narcissism, he truly can't point out a single reasonable thing about himself that would make him a quality and attractive partner that women should want to be with.

It's part of what makes Russ so repellant to women in general, and I don't think he has the maturity or self awareness to ever learn that lesson or stop doing it.
