A man from New Jersey was arrested on Monday for threatening to kill Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood, authorities said.

Richard Golden, 38, faces extradition to Volusia County and a felony charge for written threat to kill or cause injury, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Golden’s threat, posted on a 4chan on Feb. 22, regarded Chitwood’s stance against an upswing antisemitic activities in Volusia County.

The threat read: “Just shoot Chitwood in the head and he stops being a problem. They have to find a new guy to be the problem...But shooting Chitwood in the head solves an immediate problem permanently. Just shoot Chitwood in the head and murder him.”

The Central Florida Intelligence Exchange flagged the threat and launched a joint investigation.

South Brunswick Police Department officers arrested Golden Monday afternoon. According to the arrest report, Golden told detectives that he did not intend to act on the threat he made.

Golden is being held at the Middlesex County Corrections Center, pending extradition to Volusia County.

In a statement, South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said “the anonymous nature of the internet may make people feel they can say anything, but if you make threats or put people in fear we will use all our resources to track you down.”

Chitwood has been publicly denouncing hate-speech and hate groups following a stunt last month over International Speedway Boulevard, where white supremacists where recorded holding up antisemitic signs in an attempt to harass Jewish people.

The following day, antisemitic messages and flyers were spread throughout Volusia County. The Sheriff’s family was also targeted by hate groups.

“I cannot wait to meet [Golden] when he gets off the plane,” Chitwood said, “because one of the first faces he’s going to see welcoming him to the Volusia County Jail, the happiest place on earth, is going to be me.”

The post in question

What an absolute retard. Then again, it fits the MO of your average poster on nu-/pol/. I remember some retards on /pol/ 5 years back that made a thread on /g/ very lightly disguising their desire to hack into the federal welfare office and destroy it with a virus by pretending they wanted to check for any security risks... all the while having a similar thread on /pol/ about how they wanted to kill all niggers with this tactic. It's not even like I don't agree with the welfare state being a net negative on America (minus the inflated focus on race and more on America's fucked up social, economic and political climate), but why the fuck would you think it's a smart idea to threaten public officials and people on the Internet?

Is that way it was locked earlier today, the CAPTCHA didn't work?

Also it's an investigative failure to not post the board. Are we talking /pol/ or was this a shitpost on /v/ or some other /v/-tier board?
The archived link leads back to /pol/.

Basing an entire arrest off of a single 4chan post that doesn't even directly threaten a man living multiple states away from the OP. This is what the fed wastes their resources on. Can't even find anything on if the guy had any actual weapons to commit the act with.
Dude is a county sheriff in Florida, not a federal official. He used county resources to find some "In Minecraft" shitposter halfway across the country and is relishing the idea of meeting him at the airport and taking him to jail.

Tell me if that doesn't sound like a petty tyrant who can't stand criticism.

He may just be a county sheriff but the FBI did the heavy lifting here. I've posted this video in another thread but the fed was involved the whole time.

These low effort articles covering this unsuprisingly leave that out. They gave baby tyrant this win because the post mentioned him. That's probably most of his involvement.
Just continues to drive home that 4chan has been a honeypot forever and it's indisputable now.

Holy shit I hate journos so damn much

Who the fuck posts violent threats on 4chan of all things? It's one of the top sites that are probably policed. I mean, yeah controversial opinions are kind of a thing but that's protected free speech. Saying you're going to shoot the sheriff (but not the deputy) in the name of ISIS or whatever is probably not a good idea regardless of how free and open the exchange of views is, internet or otherwise.
