Lmao that's the hideous SourceNext port published by Ubisoft. That's gotta be the worst port of a critically acclaimed game in all of gaming history. No lighting, all special effects gone. I will never forget that they didn't bother with implementing characters in the realtime cutscenes, just overlapped low quality prerendered one's from ps2 they found on youtube and called it a day.

Not only did it have no light maps, it only worked with keyboard or generic controllers, the button propmts didnt change and only have generic "button 1", it was a port of thw ps2 version so it had less enemies on screen than the gc one
I believe they later released a patch that added the lighting, but the other problems were still there.

The sad thing is that for a mid 2000s PC port, I wouldn't actually say this is really extraordinary and is only notable for being a PC port of a GOAT game.

That was also why it used pre-rendered cutscenes just like the PS2. The PS2 port was not good either. I remember that the first Krauser fight was video with QTE prompts and it plays like a DVD game.
Even at the time that port was seen as absolutely horrendous. Silent Hill 2 and MGS2 came years before it and while they had problems they were never that bad.

I wouldn't say the 2014 Steam version fares much better, doesn't have those lighting and dogshit texture problems but it really doesn't like being run on modern operating systems and the 60fps mode only really co-operates if you have a 60Hz locked monitor. Thankfully re4tweaks exists and since installing that I haven't had any issues. Always sucks when you gotta resort to community patching though.

Remember that at release if you played it in 60 fps on the highest difficulty the qtes were next to impossible because they were tied to game speed.

As the release date approaches I have very conflicted feelings on this one. On one hand the good looks very good but the bad also looks very bad and even worse than that, outright cringe.

Got the images for that? Lately everybody has been screaming about U3 being cut and I don't believe it, considering literally EVERY single enemy and boss has returned thus far. It'd make no sense to cut singularly this one boss out of the entire roster.

I played some of the demo and I guess I have to... update drivers(never!). It's completely fucked with the ones I have, hopefully. Otherwise it seems good.

Interesting! I played the PS2 version and liked it but I didn't realize there's actually less enemies to fight at once in it. Any other major differences besides graphics?
I kinda want to get the PS4 version and see if that's good. Although the vr port is super tempting.

Thats the only big difference that impacts gameplay, other than the new weapons and stuff, tbh I dont think the ps2 version is bad, it is good enough, but every version released after is just infinitely better.
