I majored in filmmaking for 2 years before I switched because I found it too stressful. If he plans on shooting and editing the thing himself, he's in for a surprise.

I think you greatly underestimate Russell's talent for squeezing out a steaming turd and thinking it's the most greatest hit ever. You found it stressful because you had normal, reasonable expectations for the quality of the work you put out, and you'd be embarrassed to release something as half-assed as what he always does. He acts like he's never been told that his work is shit and he should try harder. Now I'm sure it must've happened at least once or twice, but any kids who mocked his efforts probably got soundly chastised for their mean-spirited comments and the grown-ups assured Russ that his shitty drawing was, in fact, the bestest.

HOOKER MOVIE UPDATE:

Since this story is based in the mind of Russ instead of in reality, I'm guessing that "hilarity ensues" doesn't involve the woman taking out a restraining order on the stalker who knew her from high school. I'm reasonably certain that real sex workers don't appreciate people who know/knew them personally trying to hop from "acquaintance" over to the "client" side of their life though. "Hey I remember you, I didn't know you fuck for money now, let's fuck?" is a fast way to get banned.

Though I think it's great that they're doing an Elephant Man remake, I feel like it was in bad taste for the lead actor to do a publicity tour while still wearing his Joseph Merrick makeup. It certainly makes an impression, but young children might be watching and frightened by seeing him. If you're going to insist on doing it, at least wear the burlap sack. Russ is without question an alpha male. In development, particularly software development, the alpha state is the first stage of testing. The software is riddled with bugs, essential features are missing, and it's basically the software equivalent of a rough draft of an essay in college. This describes Russ to a tee. The thing is, alpha versions progress to beta versions, which are more polished, and closer to release. Russ doesn't have to be the way he is. If he didn't have the unshakable idea he was the greatest already, he could be good at SOMETHING. Maybe he would be a jingle writer. Or maybe he would write lyrics for up and coming bands. Or maybe he could have done charming stand up about his disability, people admire others who can make fun of themselves. But no, we need to adapt to HIM, so fuck hard work!
