Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

The animal shelter that I volunteer used to not have many pitbull, but after relocating to a different, larger facility, it seems like 49 out of 50 dogs are pitbull mixes. There wasn't constant barking before they moved; now with the pitbulls it's loud, constant barking. These dogs lunge at the door of their kennel. Staff calls it "barrier aggression". The dogs still act wild when you walk into their kennel, trying to grab at your clothes and jump all over you, unlike non-pits who display barrier aggression and then become docile once you enter.

I've got a similar story about pit aggression. I learned recently that one of my neighbors has two pits, and I saw him walking them both a few days ago as I was walking around my neighborhood for exercise. I kept my distance. I walked by IIRC the same house today, and my neighbor had his garage door partly open, just so much that one of the dogs could get its snout out of the door and paws. As I walked by the house, one of the pits was barking at me as I walked by the house and trying to get out of the garage. Then again, I have to consider that this may have not been the same house (it was either this specific house or the one next door - I didn't see his car in the driveway today) but it's either his house, or more than one person on my street has pits. Lovely.

That voice was the same as that tired mom voice after having repeated the same thing 100 of times lol

The poodle who we passed did growl a bit but its owner only said "cut that out, be nice" and it stopped at once lol.

If that becomes a recurring issue and you don't have a carry license I'd start bringing around a small fire extinguisher. They make some for use mainly in small engine fires that are conveniently sized and it's one of the best ways to stop a dog attack without blowing it's brains out.

Do we have a story behind this? Looks to me like an extreme version of a temperament test- floof is impeccably socialised and well able to handle himself, but the camera was too ready to film and the humans took way too long to get involved for a normal dog park scrap.
Either way pit has proved himself to be unfixable and mastiff is 11/10 boye who deserves a sausage.

There's an episode of "Fear Thy Neighbor" on Investigation Discovery that is based around a fatal Pitbull mauling. She's probably been mentioned,but Klonda Richey suffered what San Antonio man did. Her neighbor, a Dindu nuffin, owned three pit bulls. They're listed as mastiff mixes but they were pitties. First, they killed and ate her cat . She had to listen to it yowl before it was eaten. Then, at 4 a.m while she was heading to work, the dogs, which were loose, pounced on her.

She was screaming for an hour and no one did a thing. No one called 911. They didn't even find her full corpse, AFAIK, because it'd been partially devoured. Cops came hours later after neighbors saw the bloodbath. The dogs were shot.

Another has a kid who lost his ear by the family Pitbull. Same old tale: it randomly attacked him. He lived, and kept his hearing, but only has a hole for his ear canal.

I got jumped on by a neighbor's Pitbull as a kid. No injuries, but I could feel it's teeth through my mittens. Out of the blue, as is normal.

Three women were bitten by a group of pit bulls that started fighting at their New Jersey home Tuesday, drawing an emergency response that ended with two of the dogs shot by police, a top local official says.

Five dogs had been fighting at the Amity Street home in Elizabeth when someone tried to separate them, according to the city's mayor, Chris Bollwage. That's when the dogs turned on that individual and the other two women.

Someone managed to call police, and responding officers shot two of the five dogs. The other three were taken away by animal control. There was no word on the condition of the shot dogs, nor were details on the injuries to the women immediately available. All three victims were taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified wounds.

A 13-year-old child in the home was also taken to a hospital, but that kid was not believed to have suffered physical injuries, Bollwage said. The mayor added that a mother pit bull and her puppies that were not involved in the fight were left at the home. It wasn't clear why the owner had so many dogs in the house.

Chopper 4 showed a sprawling emergency presence at the scene, with at least a half-dozen police vehicles and officers cordoning off the entire area around 8 a.m. Yellow caution tape appeared to block off one or two homes.

The scene isn't far from a school.

Would the shitbull situation be improved if the owners were held criminally liable and were prosecuted as if they themselves had committed the crimes their dindogs did?
