On Thursday, March 16, French President Emmanuel Macron's government unilaterally raised the retirement age from 62 to 64, bypassing a vote from Parliament.

This has touched off a nationwide wave of protests and disruptions, and a Vote of No Confidence in Parliament, which Macron's government survived.

Fuel shortages have started to to blockades of gas stations.

"This is fine"

Frogs protesting and burning shit down means it's another day that ends in "Y." Still I agree it's admirable they actually get off their ass to do it in the first place, regardless of whether it's something actually worth protesting over or silly shit that doesn't really matter.

Except these antics are calculated into the political process. French mobs roam around screaming stuff and setting literal trash on fire, a few windows and cars get smashed up and thats it. Macron will have this pension stuff rammed through and that will be the end of it. Protesting influences nothing, only pure incandescent rage in the form of extreme rioting that overwhelms police forces works. If your shit doesn't look like Jan 6th -- an attack on a government facility in operation, or the first few days of the Floyd riots its not going to do anything. I see absolutely nothing different between any other Parisian protest, even the Gilet Jaunes were more vigorous than this weak shit. The gas shortage stuff is a novel ploy, but I seem to recall there has been shortages for most of the year, the Canadian truckers pulled this off by blocking major trade transit points across the country which is why the Canadian government chimped out and took the nuclear option.

For all the shit everyone gives French people for being scared pussies, they really show up when the government fucks with their gibs
I wish these fuckers would have said something during the COVID lockdown. They really disappointed me there, even the Netherlands resisted harder than they did.

I agree in this case. Although, to be fair, this has worked in the past multiple times.

Whenever the French feel that their liberties might be threatened, especially for low paying jobs, they go and riot. Even though they are often being fed falsehoods by millionaire communists and syndicalists.

Don't forget that these politicians are elected. All of them. This creates unrest for all the elects. Because if someone breaks cover to get the people on their side, they will win the first move for the next election.

If you don't have the support of your own party, you're dead politically.

Anyway, just to say that it happened in the past. All it takes is a few days of proper rioting and they often backed down.

Also worth mentioning, that, unlike other polemic laws that have been protested in the past, this one specifically addresses everybody. Support will be massive.

Gilet Jaune is a classic example of a proletariat protest, people kinda understood in the beginning, but nobody but the proletariat really gave a fuck.

I love this situation because it exposes multiple aspects of retardation.

On the one hand it proves that democracy sucks or at least has fatal flaws and that gibs is one of them, maybe the biggest one. You can literally never reduce gibs by voting, it has to be done by a pseudo-dictator move like this one.

On the other hand it also proves that the concept of "democracy" is a bit of a farce to begin with and doesn't exist nearly as much as people have been led to believe. The Canadian trucker protests also showed this. If the government really wants to do something at the end of the day they can just do it and all the protesting in the world doesn't mean jack shit. A lot of protest movements in the past that people get all teary eyed about only "worked" because large factions in the government agreed with the protesters to start with (Civil Rights and etc.).

I do understand why some people would be pissed at their retirement age being raised. If you worked 40 years and you're counting the day down until you can retire in two years, then all of a sudden the government says nope sorry bro now it's 4 years, that's a kick in the balls. But hard reality is the gravy train can't run forever. Austerity in one form or another is inevitable as the finances become more clearly unsustainable over time. Shoulda had more kids, too bad the plan of importing a bunch of niggers didn't work out.

France is smaller than Texas, I would just drive to Germany or Spain and fill some jerrycans.
Now let's see how long they can keep it up.
I remember a french guy who told me the ones working for the government made more than the private sector, with extra perks to boot.

So yeah idk how profitable french state companies are but I doubt its enough to keep that going, last time I checked Renault wasn't doing that well.

And given the number of rich french leaving the country or trying every conceivable way to avoid taxes something tells me the private sector its being bleed dry to keep the gibs going.

Nah, the swiss vote on everything, the french here could've done a vote like "we either increase retirement age or we take money from X instead" that X could be welfare or healthcare. And that's where shit gets real because not everybody is near retirement age but everybody needs healthcare, and the french now have a lot of "new" welfare recipients...

I mean sure, you could make people vote on how gibs will be reduced, but that's different from letting them vote on whether gibs will be reduced. If you give them a choice to not reduce gibs, they will ALWAYS take it, with no exceptions so far as I am aware.

This is only true if you work in a very low position.

You basically can't be fired unless you really fuck up, and you're guaranteed to keep on evolving, and getting shitty raises. It's a grid. It's a much more chill job to be a fonctionnaire if you're a grunt.

If you're any good at what you do, there is only one advantage to working in the public sector vs private. The connections you make. Otherwise you're paid like shit.

For instance, let's say you work as a controller for the tax office. You know what bothers you, you know which files cost more money to pursue than they bring, you know the loopholes, you know the people who fucking work there.

Just work a few years, be paid like shit and then make your own consultancy for people with tax evasion dreams or tax issues. Make bank.

Same as being president, a mayor, an MP or a minister . It pays OK, and there are perks for sure, but the real money is in the private sector when your term expires.

Hope they can keep up the tempo until their gov gives them what they want. Hope they apply some Canadian trucker tactics on this one considering how drunk on the wine of tyranny most western govs are these days.

That's why anyone who receives government assistance should be disenfranchised until they're no longer receiving assistance. It makes no sense that they're allowed to vote themselves more handouts from the state.
