Tumblr. It started with tumblr. Before that if you had a headcanon you'd write some fanfic. If everybody liked it it became "fanon" i.e. fandom canon. I don't even like anime, and I can admit that Kill La Kill is badass. It's like Sailor Moon as written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. You'd think that a show which is an open, blatant parody of most of the themes of anime would be exempt from the stupidity of tumblr headcanons. If for no other reason than that it's target demographic isn't six-year-olds and so Tumblr should have no interest in it at all. Alas....
Didn't "headcanons" start out as just fan theories and interpretations about what was already going on in the show/movie/book? When did it turn into whatever terrifying alternate dimension their subnormal brain can conceive for these characters?
