Goodbye Volcano High - "The Future of Gaming", The Parody Game of the Beloved Snoot Game Franchise

Do we know if there's been any kind of price announced? If the game really is 5~ hours long then they better not ask for a full 60$ in return, or else not even the people interested through Snoot will be willing to buy their game.

Worthless jokes aside anything over $19.99 is objectively overpriced.

For reference, according to google:
Life is Strange: 14 hours, 18 1/2 hours complete
Night in the Woods: 9 Hours, 24 hours complete
Hatoful Boyfriend: 1 1/2 hours, 9~ hours complete
Any Ace Attorney Game: ~15-20 hours
Danganronpa: 25 hours main, 45 hours complete.
The Walking Dead/Telltale Games: 2 hours per episode, ~10-12 for a season.
Doki Doki Literature Club: ~4 hours for a playthrough, 7 1/2 hours for full completion.
Steins Gate: 26 hours for a playthrough, 41 hours for full completion.

Most of the games that actually clock in around that time span, and are vns, are around anywhere from 10 dollars to nothing. So it would be VERY ballsy to make the game more costly than $10.

Considering a 5 year dev time, this means the game is either doomed to not make a profit, or doomed to come out a blatantly scammy price and get shit on all over again. And still not make a profit.

Just for comparison, Snoot Game has around five hours for a single ending and another five or so for the other three endings (depending on how much repeated text/scenes you skipped) and the bonus chapters. And it was made in around a year. With zero budget.

MAYBE there's a chance they mean five hours for a single playthrough, there's other endings/routes/whatever that would give it a more reasonable playtime for people that actually like playing video games, but I don't think I'll hold my breath.

Especially after seeing this Rock Paper Shotgun (paywalled) article that inspires the opposite of confidence - "Life Is Strange meets We Are OFK in dino visual novel Goodbye Volcano High". I hate everything about this headline, for multiple reasons.

Seeing this thread update always brightens my day.

Holyyyyy shiiiiiiiiiit! 5 whole fucking hours! Wowzers! And this is probably playing like a retard and letting all the voice work and songs play out. No fucking mention of multiple endings or branches either. People will probably have time to plow through it and steam refund it :D

And dificulty? What fucking dificulty? We going full DDR giga hard on the faggy music sections now or much more likely the game will just be a movie with everything going like the retarded writers intended.

Christ I want this out and a mocking lets play so bad

Fixed that for you chief.

The virgin GVH pump'n'dump vs. the chad Snoot Game steady relationship.

Not gonna lie, if they had the balls to crib the gameplay and over-the-top storytelling of Elite Beat Agents, GVH could be fun instead of insufferable.

Every new piece of information that comes out makes it harder to justify any reason to play this game outside of "because I want to compare it to Snoot Game." Five hours of walking, talking and one or two QTE sequences and then the game ends with everyone dying in a mass extinction event, without even so much as a kiss from the character of your choice?

I'm not entirely sure that there will be a mass extinction event because that would actually be a ballsy move that adds some level of urgency, drama, and opportunity to the story. It's more likely that they're going to hamfist the extinction meteor into a deep metaphor about leaving highschool.

Gameplay wise, it's a visual novel and I do have to give them some credit for including more gameplay than choosing the right dialogue boxes. But at the end of the day any visual novel, no matter what novelties they add to it, lives or dies based on the quality of its writing.
That's where they're going to screw up, that's what will make GVH not worth whatever amount they demand for it.

Good writing is what made snoot game more than a spite or meme of the week project.

GVH could’ve had one advantage over Snoot Game which would’ve been multiple character choices to date instead of Snoot Game’s Fang only route and yet they can’t even give you that.

What’s the honest to raptor jesus appeal here? What can people get out of this bad fit of a game?

Sorry chief but in the pic you quoted it says the meteor is very real. So unless there is a Bruce Willis dino, I expect all to die in hellfire (but hey, they made a wicked band in their last days alive I guess).

If it was a metaphor it would at least make sense where their priorities lie.

I've seen the FAQ before, but what's the point? They made it clear that everyone is going to die. Helping Fang with her relationships won't even matter in the end. In all liklihood, someone like her would probably shut out their friends and become depressed. Are they seriously trying to make this Majora's Mask: The Scalie VM?

Aw shit, glossed over that entirely in my tiredness. Throw what I said into a fire unless they were telling us a sweet little lie. Still quite interesting how they decided to include that in their panel for whatever reason.
Now the question is in whether they'll actually use that to any meaningful degree, if the entire game is them just starting a band in highschool as if a cataclysm wasn't looming then that's just a missed opportunity.

Seems like it will be about being true to xerself or some other shit when gazing at the apocolypse. The problem is, though I don't doubt a good number of people when faced with a cataclysm with expected arrival date would cope like that, I also find that those would be the saddest cases by far. The world is fucking ending in 6 months and you are still going to your high school and focusing on your shitty garage band?
