Resident Evil - Virgin Vampire Wine Mom vs Chad Magnetic Lebowski

Just beat the game.
Without spoilers, how much is the second half different from the original?

I ask because multiple times I've heard variations on the claim that the game starts with you fighting a few guys in a village and then gets insane by the end. Original did that too if you include things like the giant robot statue and suplexing monks in a lava dungeon.

Without spoilers, it does a pretty good job of going through the beats of RE 4
I don't remember anything being missing (aside from U3 which has been discussed) and some enemies have been changed. The dude with the Minigun doesn't exist, but we got an equivalent who I don't hate, so fair play.

They had a tendency to take the plot points and rework them to fit the scenario, if this makes sense.

The giant robot Salazar does exist, so don't worry. It's just not ad retarded.

Is anyone else on Xbox getting this weird effect in some areas? The shadows are almost a solid black and playing with the HDR settings does nothing.

>be me
>be playing RE4 Remake at friend's house on hardcore mode
>be stuck on roof on low health with like a dozen villagers swarming below
>try to leap to next roof over only to immediately get beaned in the face with an axe mid-jump and fall directly into the horde below and die
>die laughing because the exact same thing happens again on my very next attempt

10/10.

re4make is uniquely addicting in the gameplay department. i just can't put it down. there are a lot of cracks in the facade of course, and there's no meaningful difference in difficulties the way there was in RE3make (the only good part of that game), but once you get going it has the right balance of picking up stuff and shooting stuff and there's a lot of weapons and plenty of reason to try them all. there's also plenty of moments where, after my first playthrough, i discovered there are easier or simpler ways to accomplish certain tasks. for example, you can blow up the Salazar statue that shoots flame from the ground level if you stand in the right spot.

i was pleasantly surprised for them to say that Mercenaries is due on April 7th. much sooner than i would have anticipated. hoping for all OG characters to be playable, plus Luis now.

After finishing the game at 16 hours, I have to say that it was definitely worth it. Will you get 30 hours out of it on your first playthrough? No, not at all. Some reviewers claimed that, but you could squeeze 20 hours out of it at most if you really took your time. Anyway, like RE2 remake everything is left mostly intact, but there is plenty changed around to make it feel like a new experience. (While RE3R felt like a completely different game.) Every enemy is in the game. All enemies, not all bosses. (U-3 was cut, obviously.) Some enemies went through big redesigns like J.J., who now has a cow head and a smaller gun instead of a mini gun. Regenerators were unfortunately a victim of bad design. The pedophile breathing is still there, but they don’t look scary anymore. Another big thing about the regenerators is that they have a chance of mutating into Iron Maiden’s. So rather than finding Iron Maiden’s like in the original, a regenerator can mutate into one while you’re fighting it. I’d say overall this is the best remake so far because even though RE2R was pretty faithful, it had big flaws like fucking up the A/B scenarios. RE4R’s biggest flaw aside from the removal of Separate Ways and Assignment Ada, is U-3 getting cut.

The new regenerators look a lot like the molded from RE7, that combined with a note found in one of labs that mentions "black ooze" makes me think there's sort of a mini retcon going on to tie 4 in with 7 and 8.

Loving RE4R so far, mainly because they did not fuck with the original formula that worked so well. The basic loop is still shoot villager in the face -> roundhouse kick to knock him and his friends down, which is what made the original so much fun for me. The changes they did make are mainly to address problems with the original, such as Ashley no longer requiring healing, tank controls are replaced by modern TPS controls, and the parry mechanic helps avoid bullshit damage. Also, thank God the quick times events are gone for good.

It's not all perfect, though. I had to turn ray tracing off because the game would crash at random, even though it didn't come anywhere close to exceeding my graphics card's VRAM, and the non-ray traced water looks kinda ass. I hoped this gets patched soon.

With this and the Dead Space remake, we've been spoiled for good action horror games this year.

There's a reason the OG RE4 was such a popular game that people love to replay. It's just one of those games that you want to master.

Playing hardcore for the first time through. Got my ass beat in the house holdout; think I died like 4-5 times. The game really seems to show you no mercy even if you've only got half a mag of handgun rounds to your name and are near death. I'll be curious to see how the fellas doing the no hit runs are approaching things once I'm done with my playthrough.

I think part of my woes were caused by me making the horrendous mistake of selling off the combat knife at the beginning of the game. I didn't know how important it was for killing plagas and big guys quickly.

Only problem I have with RE4r is that you CAN'T BUY YOUR FUCKING GUNS BACK IF YOU SELL THEM. The riot gun is way, way better than the striker.
are you sure? there's a repurchase tab in the buy menu.

the striker is the actual crowd control shotgun. not for power, but invaluable if you find yourself getting swarmed. it's a shame that it comes so late whereas, oddly, the riot gun comes earlier than usual. even still, the riot gun is the best shotgun in the game for its tight choke.

also, i've learned that you can shoot the church bell in the village survival in chapter 1 to end the battle instantly, but i think you need a rifle to do so. i tried for like 5 minutes with the handgun so maybe it's for people on NG+ who just want to keep things moving?
