Fear not, friend, I too enjoy a good grandma tier embroidery. I just pretend like it's because I can see the beauty in small things, and not because I literally just have an old lady's style.

I liked the floral prayer veil pattern, tbh...I'd wear a sundress or flowy skirt w/ that pattern, and I had an Ikea Ektorp slipcover that was a similar floral (maybe slightly bigger florals?). Yes, I'm an old lady LOL.

I don't get the black abayas, even with decorations...abayas come in lovely colors and designs, and in cotton, which would be much more comfortable in the heat, no? She mentioned that she couldn't easily find jeans/shirts in her size and I have no doubt that that's true, but kaftans would fit her, and they can be in any color/pattern/fabric you please. Etsy has sellers who'll make them custom.

I also saw lace or openwork undercaps, which also have to be cooler than what she's wearing...and a cotton or silk hijab over that would be so much more comfortable. I get itchy just looking at her swathed up like that and know how hot she must be.

I love her barely containing her rage at Salah. She snipped at him several times, at least twice about ice cream. He was looking at her phone right before the rage quit, and just a few moments before she announced that the camera was on her. Was that addressed to the passerby that she filmed who immediately looked away? Or did Salah tell her not to film him from behind?

We've gotten to the point where she's fighting with him even on camera. Perfect.

She seems to think when she is on MUTE we can't see her either. Her facial expressions didn't look exactly happy while we were waiting for our queen to grace us with her undivided attention.

Also, right before the stream dropped there looked to be a total shift in moods. She was snappy about the ice cream, like, why would Salad even ask her if she wanted any?! It went downhill from there. Router going out my ass, she obviously ended the live.

In other news, the most interesting part of this coma-inducing live was the (possibly inadvertant) demonstration that she still hasn't bought so much as an ice cream by herself. It amuses me greatly that she thinks she is an experienced world traveller yet she admits she won't go out on her own and clearly cannot buy an ice cream from a street vendor. Point, smile and say thank you in the language is the minimum most functioning adults could muster. But queen boss bitch needs Salah to get it. That’s a traditional middle eastern style of couch. They usually don’t have an internal frame and rely upon being placed against a wall to maintain their shape. You’ll see a lot of them on Amazon.

Redemption arc? This is a little too hard. Sleeps all day and decides at 11pm that she wants to feed the strays. It’s hard to find an absolute answer for the traditional black abaya. The traditional male attire is white and it’s linked in Islam to purity similarly as it is in the west. The idea of all men in white and all women in black is also seen as symbol of humans being equal and indistinguishable under the eyes of god. (Presumably some are more equal than others.)

It isn’t required by Islam for women to wear black but it’s very prevalent and described as culturally ‘traditional’ even though it would seem like a bad idea in a hot climate.

I once asked a Muslim man why he wore white. He said “Because it is practical. It is cooling in the heat.”
I followed that up with “well, why then do your women wear black?” He kind of looked at his shoes and mumbled something I couldn’t quite catch. Make of that what you will.

It does seem to a casual observer that Chantal has hand-picked this as her own special version of hell. She has to sit in literally the hottest country on Earth, wrapped in sweltering gear from head to toe, deprived of basic freedom, and as of this week, food and water. My dry cleaner's got cancelled and chased out of town for feeding stray cats. It really was looking like Kuwait for a while there. That's just to say I don't think she realizes this isn't acceptable behavior for civilized people.

Civilized people feed the existing cats and neuter them to prevent a Kuwait style situation. A bunch of sick, hungry cats bring all kinds of issues, even if you don't care about their suffering. And they don't stop breeding anyway. (Sorry, thread, just this one from me.)
