That's not true- it asks if you've ever been *involuntarily* committed. Somebody can theoretically be committed 8 trillion times in their lifetime, but if each and every time was completely voluntary then they are free and clear to own guns or even get conceal carry permits or even become a FFL themselves.

Involuntary commitment even once is a lifetime ban on firearm ownership- and is just as bad under US law as being a violent convicted felon in that it fucks with your ability to get a job, rent apartments, and vote.
