I want to see Jason work a month as a hotel maid and having to wait for public transportation or the private bus service. This shit is like people on vacation saying a country is nice when you haven't even left the fucking resort. He says the island has tons of traffic despite having a small population because the only solution to traffic is to provide alternatives to cars, and Nassau doesn't have any. To prove his point he shows this graphic of Amsterdam laid on top of the island of New Providence (where Nassau is located):
I thought the weather was nice. After getting off the bus downtown on Bay Street he says he's overwhelmed by the smell of vehicle exhaust, and complains of it being hot and unpleasant to walk.
According to him, Bay Street used to be two way until it was converted to one way "to speed up car traffic", with Bay Street going east and Shirley Street going west.
He also claims that many businesses along the road went out of business due to loss of foot traffic and therefore cars suck the life out of the place somehow.
It's called all inclusive resorts for a reason. He further claims that Foreign didn't notice downtown deteriorating because he was driving all the time and that walking through your city makes you notice things you can't while in a car, and that this is a problem in North America too with people not knowing the state of their city and that it's crumbling. He challenges people who drive to walk instead so they can notice things better.
Furthermore, if public transportation and public awareness of issues was the solution than San Francisco would have solved their problem years ago.
Well, than the socialist can do it himself or with his own little collective.Foreign goes over how tourism exploits the black bahamian again by having the interviewees share a bunch of historical anecdotes including calling bahamians niggers.
At the end there's a proposal to build smaller, boutique resorts that are more eco-friendly. Also goes over how a guy made a racist music video or something
The economics are complicated, with them being in an island area full of Caribbean resorts so they will have to be better than the competition. Additionally, these smaller resorts would need to be more expensive so instead of serving the middle to upper middle class your clients are now mostly upper class. With these resorts being smaller that would mean less need for the service industry to support large resorts resulting in a loss of jobs. They could go the Singapore / Hong Kong route in economic development then try to find some niche sector like tech but that takes generations of educational investment and they would need to compete with the US state of Florida and territory of Puerto Rico.
But don't pay any attention to people telling you that your socialist plan is shit.
Its so they can accuse people that criticism the message of racism or even make them think twice before commenting.I have no idea why Jason collaborated with this man but it's still hilarious to me.
